Ok I was at a local swap meet and was looking at some 283 parts as I think Im going to go the easy route with my model a and a guy asked if I had a 283 and what year.....I answered not yet and then we started talking cars, I told him I was looking for one for the model a and next thing you know he was telling me of 3 he had in his shop that he would love to leave cause he needs the room so I jumped on them.......drove to his shop and for $150 dollars I brought home this loot offset heads
I ran the numbers and 2 are 60 blocks not sure why they put the early heads on the one and one is a 65
Sweet. The 283 Chevy V8 is the best engine ever designed. Of course the 235 Chevy six cylinder runs a close second, in terms of reliability. Yeah....I'm a Chevy guy.
yep im shopping online for a 2x3 setup and some late fixtures for the build.....O and he threw in a re-ring kit that was never open for $15 not sure if gaskets get old setting but for $15 I couldnt go wrong
I always liked 283's and 307's (just a 283 with a 327 crank). Henrietta the '38 Ford pickup has a 307 out of a '68 GMC pickup. Used to have a ' 63 Bel Air with a 283, 2 bbl. and Powerglide, that car had plenty of room for my long-legged carc*** and it would get 25 MPG on the open road all day long.
Best engine Chevy ever built, maybe anybody. I had a 62 in my blue A roadster and I'm putting a genuine '60 Vette in my new A. Great score! I,m jealous.
I have to agree as well, the mighty mouse 283, I'm running a 1957 Power Pack, fresh with 400 miles. I went after milage using 1987 intake, 1990 TPI runners and cp, 700r4 and 3:73 gears. Quick off the line and will do 80 mph all day long. 23 mpg doing 70 mph going up the I-5. I should get better now that it's tightened up. Taking an other run in the 57 to Sacramento this week for work. (about 1000 miles round trip). I think I have everything tight, we'll see. cheers
