First off this is an awesome site i just found, and second i just traded and got a 60 ford. I've already flipped the axles, and noticed i needed a notch front and rear. I thought i was gonna have to have 4 to 6 inch notches front and rear. But now ive been reading that only a mild notch is needed. I have a 390 with a c6 right now soon to be a 4 speed. When i got the axles flipped. the front u bolts are hitting the frame just sitting there. Call me crazy but im gonnna need more than just a mild notch right? Pics coming soon!
Pic's would help us comment on your situation. Consider getting your springs reset slightly to gain some clearance. I am sure other will be abale to advise you as I have not gone that route as I used an IFS setup.
You only need two or three full threads sticking out of the nuts on the U bolts. If you trimmed the bolts off a bit would that get you a bit more clearance? One of my buddies did that on a 48 or so F-1 years ago but I never looked under it to see what he had done to the frame if anything. Normally though, guys will have the axle dropped and or reverse the eyes in the spring and take a couple of leaves out of each spring. to get the front end down along with running lower profile than stock front tires.
Alright now i'm not gonna throw off on ur **** so don't throw off on mine cause its not what you would use.
considering that you've joined a TRADITIONAL hotrod and kustom board, you should expect to get your balls busted for using nontraditional wheels and tires.
Go ahead I'm a big boy. No way in he'll I'd go to a mini trucker site and post my Shoebox ford with steel wheels and bias plies.....
Guess ur right about that ill just keep the 22 pics to myself, but this is just the only place i've found good info on running strait axles and the 57-60 f100s I'm caught halfway between traditional stuff and modern touches. Hoping this truck lands somewhere in between. I've just seen threads turn into bash sessions and *****fests and id rather not get into all that.
the bolt threads are only a half inch past the nuts i could cut them and gain a little bit but i guess what my real question is, what is the real world travel of ur guys suspension. If i put a small nothch in the frame say two inches, that means my suspension will only have two inches of up travel. That doesnt seem like enough. I would send some pics but i just got my frame blasted so everything is tore apart.
In the social group 57-60 Ford f100s hotrod1959 just ran through the lowered and notching of his 59. Pretty simple and straight forward. Actually rides well and drives straight as I have done the same to my truck
