I`m trying to sort out a grill for my 1949 ford woodie from the pieces I`ve collected. I`ve learned from reading here that the center rings around the bullet are different on the 49 and 50. My ring is 11" in diameter, and 4 1/4 deep, can anyone tell me if its a 49 or a 50? I`m new here any any help would be much appreciated.
i just measured the one from my 50 it is 11 1/4 dia from side to side 11 1/2 from top to bottom and 4 1/4 in deep i do know the center bullet itself is the same between 49's and 50's now please do an introduction
sorry, I did not know the drill, I`m an old car guy been doing it for 40 years, I`m 61 and still messing with my old cars, just found this site and am looking for some help. I didn`t realize I should have introduced myself. thanks for the help, guess I have a 50 center ring, wonder what the 49 measures? thanks, Bob
I did not that I should have introduced myself first, sorry, just looking for some help. I will go back and try to find the place where you introduce yourself, my bad.
Welcome aboard brother, always great to bring another Henry shoebox to the group. Good luck with your project, we appreciate experienced dudes hookin up to the forum, especially a 61 year youngster with a woodie. Rock on ~sololobo~
zinbobwy heres a link to do the introduction on or just look at the top of the page where it says sub-forums new to the hamb? introduce yourself http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18 welcome to the board
It's my understanding that the center bullet , center ring , and the chrome piece directly above it are the same from 49-50 . The rest of the upper trim "whiskers" and center bars are different , due to diffferent parking light treatments . I had to find all this stuff for my '49 , so I'm pretty darn sure about it . Welcome aboard , BTW .
I bought a 1950 center ring for around the bullet and it does not fit my 1949 grill. The 50 center ring is slightly larger in diameter than the 49.
I highly recommend two books for anybody that has a shoebox Ford. The first is the Ford P***enger Car Shop Manual 1949-1950-1951, which is a reprint of the original. The second is the 1949-50-51 FORD Book, published by the Early Ford V-8 Club of America. I've had both these books since I bought my '51 back in 1997 and they have proven themselves very helpful. Good luck with your project.
Hmmmm ... interesting - now I've gotta dig out my parts & double-check what I've got . Wonder why the heck they would've done that ??
Hi, my research says the 49 ring is about 7" deep, where the 50 ring I have is about 4 1/4 deep, though they say they are the same diameter (about 11"), still looking for parts, wanna get this stuff off to the chrome shop
have youi went to shoeboxford.com? maybe someone there would have one the guy that runs the site has a yard full of shoebox partscars , just a thought
And ya gotta attach naked pictures of your wife. Now don't phuck up a second time, your on thin ice so as it is. Welcome to the club.
