My girl and I went on a little road trip/vacation yesterday and got lost a bit and after a couple of turns here and there we turn in to this neighborhood and we pass a house that has a sign that says "free scrap metal" so as we pass I look to see if there is any pieces that are useful and see this little guy. I pull over and take a look to see what it is, and notice the goodies this little bad boy has. looks to have chevy spindles with a disc conversion, score!! So i get off and honk and the old man comes out from the back yard, so I ask him what it came off of but said he didnt know. All he know was that his brother had a trailer that was falling apart so tore it apart and scrapped it and that was what was left. Looks like the spindles were welded to the axle to make it solid. I told the guy I would take it of his hands if he helped me take it apart and said sure so he bust out the torch and impact gun and helped me load it up in the back of my BMW.lol So we loaded up the leafs and wheels in the trunk and axle in the back seat and we were off on our 120+ mile trip back home. all in all was a good day, but now comes the fun part. What is it off of?
i think thats lift, not drop;you'd need some tall wheels to roll...? might be off a ups truck? how wide is it?
Looks as if it is a chevy by the "bumps" out on the end by the spindles. Why don't you get of Sid @ dropped axles in OK. I'll betcha he can identify. Fenderless
It looks like mine but has a lot nicer job of dropping it than mine has. I think this one came of an early /mid 30s Chevrolet that got a MII crossmember installed and would bet that the one you have started out the same way. You might luck out and find that most of the welding was done between the caliper bracket and the axle and a bit of cutting and you can have a clean dropped axle.
No it is a dropped axle off someone's old rod that ended up under a trailer. Not that long ago either from looking at the disk brake rotors and caliper brackets.
found out what its off of, it off a 33-36 chevy car. Measure 50 1/2'' kingpin to king pin, 28'' from center to center on the spring perch, and 1 3/4'' tall king pin boss. Kind of bummed that I cant use it, but oh well... still a cool find. especially with the disc set up
