I'm new to H.A.M.B. I just got a 1941 ford pu and the ***le is from California. Vehicle id number is CA497273. I was wondering just where on the truck is this number suppose to be? Checking some of the questions presented by other people who have 1940 or 1941 trucks they say id number starts with a star I then 7 numbers and finally a star. Should that number be on the ***le? I'm confused--do I have the right ***le for the vehicle that I have? Vehicle is a fixer upper and have not gotten under it to check frame where other people say id number is located. Any help appreciated.
I have the star and number and star on the frame of mine LH side up by the front wheel stamped on the top of the rail. My cab also has a number stamped on the front of the firewall roughly where the master cylinder would be on todays cars. Welcome to the Hamb.
Thanks for all the info. Does anyone know why my ***le has CA****** as the ID number? Found the "vin number" on the vehicle and it does not match.
I have a 1940 Chevy P/U and the VIN is exactly as you describe it, CA******. The truck has been in the family for about 35 years and my father tells the story the the DMV "***igned" the number and installed the ID tag sometime back in the early 80's. On my truck it is a blue and silver plate about 1"x3" riveted to the door jam of the driver side door right about above the door latch. According to Wikidepdia, the VIN system was first established in 1954 but there was no standardized system until 1981. If the truck you are talking about has been sitting in someone's garage for 40 years, it is quite possible there is no VIN. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_Identification_Number
On Model A's engines the CA prefix is for Canadian built A motors. Don't know if that is the case with 41' trucks.
