Even though i have owned both models i like the 3 window 47-54 truck cabs better ,but it seems like there are way more 5 windows out there than the 3 window version. It doesnt ever seem to effect the price of these trucks either way .Which one do you like better and why ? Just curious here ...
My 52 is a 3 window. Personally i like them better. Just not crazy about having all the gl*** and like the privacy (for lack of a better word) of the 3. Tony
I like them both but I prefer the 5 window cabs.. More gl*** to see out of and less blind spots. I like to be sure the mistakes (if any) are not on my part. I have a '48 that will get built after I finish my A.
Im with you on the blindspot thing with the 3 window.I got flipped off more than once getting onto the freeway with my 49 3 window .I could see fine making right hand lane changes looking through the back gl*** ,but left hands were tough soemtimes...
I've had both over the years, but I prefer three windows big time! As for why, have you ever driven east at six o clock in the evening on a 119 degree day with a five window cab before? Didn't think so! Talk about weird sunburn!!! Not to mention more heat in the cab than the A/C can ever hope to overcome... Nope, no more five window A.D. trucks for me! That goes for late fifties big windows too!
I never thought of the heat from the sunlight aspect ,but it makes sense .Funny thing is even though i prefer the looks of the 3 window AD's im wild about the looks of the Big Back Window late 50's trucks over the small window versions ...
I drive a 5. I've never had a problem with heat. I feel like I'm in a cave now when I drive a 3. The 5s look much sweeter in my opinion. A 3 window just needs to be chopped.
3 window, the corner windows look like a bad after thought. Shoot they are taller than the back window. just out of proportion.
I'm torn between this right now..can't decide if I want to stick with a 3 window or go with a 5 window
I have a 5 window but I wasn't looking for a 5 window. I just happened to get a good deal and a very solid orginal truck. I like both models. The 5 window is a deluxe model so it will have the stainless window trim while the 3 window orginally does not even though there are alot of 3 windows with the trim.
For me I like 3 windows, gives you more of a coupe feel, don't like the corner windows, they let in too much light and heat, ... they look out of proportion , or like an afterthought as mentioned above. Seems to be a lot more 3 windows around here where I live.
Its kinda weird that most people who see my 50 AD tell me "its too bad its not a 5 window" ,but on here its seems the 3 window is more popular ...
I like the 5 window it's different, every truck made from the 20's until now are 3 windows, how many other 5 windows outside of extended cab trucks are there? I also prefer it for the blind spot issue, if you drive daily and in busy traffic it's nice to have that view.
I learned to drive in a 54 five window but prefer the 3 window because I have mine chopped. Restored, the five window will usually have a higher value as it was a higher cost truck to begin with. Even as a mildly modified truck I would think that the five windows would bring slightly more or be easier to sell than a comparable three window. Granted the five window is a bit easier to see traffic beside you with but that may also be due to the simple fact that guys with old cars and trucks tend to not want to run side mirrors that you can actually see traffic coming up beside you with and I am as guilty as everyone else there. Big mirrors are ugly. Other than that it is just what you personally like and one isn't actually better than the other. And sometimes it is just what you find to build that is in good shape that makes the decision for you. And no matter which one you have some mouthbreathing "expert" will tell you that you should have the other style. That I can say from experience.
The early 50's Dodge trucks had 5 window cabs.I own and like 3 window AD cabs. The five window cabs remind me of them **** ugly frying pan looking Dodge trucks
I love my 5 window. I like the 3 window just fine too. 3's seem to make better chop candidates. Not sure if I've ever seen a 5 window chopped. Everywhere I go, somebody at a gas station has to tell me "that's a 52 (or 53, 51, 49, etc), that's the only year that they had that corner window." Then act like I don't know what I'm talking about when I tell 'em it's a 54!
I personally like the 5 windows better. I will be building 2 of those once I find a piece of property with a shop on it.
Me too. That recent build where he filled in the corner windows made me smile in comparison to seeing the opposite so many times.
I like the corner windows, but the fact that they are taller than the center window is kind of odd. Which brings up the question, has anyone ever extended the center window opening to match the corner windows? It would look pretty cool, I am ***uming that is flat gl*** so it should be a pretty straightforward customization.
The corner gl*** may be taller than the rear window, but it's about the same as the side gl***. All the way up to 67 the back gl*** was smaller (shorter) than the side gl***, with the exception of some of the fancier models.
FYI... Most 5 windows were sold as part of the "deluxe cab" option, which also included.... Chrome grill Stainless window and windshield trim Right side sunvisor Left arm rest Fresh air heater
Agreed on those Dodge 5 windows being the ugliest of them all .The 3 window Dodge trucks look way better ,but there still not an "AD" IMO ...
I knew the 5 window cab came with the chrome grill and window trim ,but i didnt know it came with the other options .I learn something new on here daily ...
