Alright, here's a tough one because I don't have very much information. My uncle has a '49 Dodge Woody sitting in pieces in his garage. My mom tells me it's a truck, but I'm not sure if that makes sense, I know they had a Coronet station wagon woody and a power wagon woody, but a truck? If anyone knows anything about this let me know. I'm hoping this could be a new project for me
Someone on this board has one of those trucks. They were built for several years from the late 40s- early 50s. Much cruder construction than the delicious woodie wagons based on cars but neat-o anyway! My son-in-law said a friend had one of these when he was in school at UT in Austin in the early 90s. It carried much beer and friends during its tenure as designated ride by these guys. He knows he has a picture somewhere but hasn't found it for me. Maybe someone from UT here remembers seeing it.
hmm that would be helpful. I'm dying to call him and find out the model it is. This could either turn out to be a great find or a heartbreak....
I'm guessing (hoping) based on the size of his garage it's more similar to the first one, thanks for the pics
There was a company in the 1940s by the name of Cantrell (or something like that) that did wooden body conversions for Dodge trucks. Those were very nicely done.
Woodie bodies were built on truck ch***is until 1955. They were built mainly by 3 companies; J. T. Cantrell and Sons, Campbell, and Hafner Body company. I have two of these woodies. One a 1948 Dodge B1B108 4x4 1/2 ton woodie and the other a 1949 Dodge B1B108 woodie. Both of mine were built by Cantrell. I know of as many as 20 truck ch***is woodies from 1/2 8 p***enger models to 1 1/2 ton 18 p***enger models which have survived. They were built on Dodge, Ford, Gmc, Chevy and maybe a few othe ch***is. If you can send me pictures and any other info you have I can probably tell you a lot about this woodie.
