I got a set of the tear drop scoops like the ones on "Atomic Punk". They look great on my 3x2 but I have a small problem. The set screw is to high on the scoop to catch the throat of the carb. Do any of you have and ideas that can work. I thought about redrilling and tapping is this my only option?
Redrilling and tapping sounds good. You could also grind a bit off the bottoms of the scoops till they sit low enough for the screw to grab.
looking at the carbs the throat is about 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch and the center of the set screw on the scoop is at about 1/8 above that. It doesnt look like there is much to drill and tap a new hole.
I think you have the Badger air scoops, theses are more suited for the Stromberg carbs, which have a taller throat, the cal customs fit better and have two set screws.one option it to make several vertical cuts in the mounting collar and use a large hose clamp that would be hidden under the scoop.Hard to find scoops in good condition, I wouldn't want one to fall off, Dave
So here is what I thought could work how about welding some 2 tabs in the throats of the carbs and drilling and tapping them to line up with the holes in the scoops? Can I get some input.
Don't weld them.... Take some sheet metal and make a spacer that goes in the air cleaner and over the neck of the carb. thin metal will work. then you can use the set screw in the metal and a thin hose clamp on the carb. That way the air cleaners stay intact. Here's a couple of ideas
I like your idea what did you use to make the collar. I was thinking of using a piece of 3" EMT pipe (electrician pipe) and sectioning a piece out of it clamping it down.
Redrilling and tapping would only leave 1/16" below the set screw which is not safe. Anyone else have an idea.
