I was re-doing the brakes on my 61 coupe deville. Ordered a master cylinder but when i went to put it on i noticed the booster was not like ive seen before. Looks like the plunger is apart of the booster held in with a surclip instead of the master cylinder? I tore the booster apart only to find all the brake fluid inside of it. The booster is now destroyed and im stumped on what to do now? havent had luck finding another one.

its probably the same thing that happened to me, i have a '61 cadillac. and by chasing part #s discovered i have a 1960 cadillac booster and master cylinder, 2 options were available a Delco "moraine" or a bendix 2 different designs. does this look framiliar? this is the Delco Moraine like on mine

It was a moraine cylinder but i ended up with a POS chinese Centex.. it wasnt the right cylinder but now my booster is junk. im curious how the booster and cylinder work together on the stock setup when the plunger connects to the booster via surclip instead of having a push rod like most booster/cylinders?

it does have a push rod. the plunger is inside of the booster. which presses the rubber back end of the master (the black boot in the pic). its a ****py design and a pain in the but to install. i did mine not too long ago

another option may be to upgrade to a dual master cylinder from a '62 cadillac. thats pretty much the route i'm going next.

Eric over on the 61-62 Cadillac owners site all the parts to do the disc swap are listed ... we've got the parts and low cost down to a science.

some of us are making our own caliper brackets and p***ing around templates if you can cut and weld
