70's Camaro Motor Mount L6

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by LuckyBadAzzBoy, Mar 29, 2011.

  1. I have a 1970-1972 camaro front end that originally had v8 bbc
Im currently rebuilding the entire front subframe for a late 40's mercury project i have.
I picked up a cheap 250 inline 6 locally and would love to use it in with my subframe.
my question is finding the right motor mounts (the anchor mount that bolts onto the frame)

the original bbc anchor mounts are way to wide to fit the L6
can the 350 v8 mounts work with the L6
i really dont want to drill new holes for the motor mounts nor want to order the wrong ones.
if anyone can give me some guidence...thank you very much.

  2. Per the GM parts catalog the 6 cyl. used a different frame bracket than the V8.
Good news, you can use the brackets from 65-71 full size, 67-72 Camaro,68-72 Nova and 72 full size except taxi cabs, but only 6 cylinder equipped cars.

73, there was a change in the motor mount system so all the numbers are different. Not sure about the subframe if the holes are different or not.

  3. do you have a picture of how the bracket looks like? i feel like im looking at all the wrong things.
    thanks.

  4. if anyone has pictures of a 250 set with a camaro subframe, can you please post them up.
    thanks.

  5. I can't post it here as I have to copy a parts catalog and no scanner here.
If you will send me a PM with a fax number I will send it to you.

Get the engine brackets that were used in trucks on the 230/250 all thru the 60s and bolt them to the engine. you can then bolt the big block mounts to these brackets and it should drop right in.

Although the factory camaro 6 cyl mounts are completely different....

  7. thanks squirrel,
so i could the stock v8 mounts for the frame, but i would have to swap up the inline 6 mounts?

Chevys are very interchangeable. The small and big blocks have the mount and bellhousing holes in the same place. The 63-up six also has them in the same place...sort of...the trucks and some cars used engine brackets that put mount holes right where they are on the V8s.

You still may have to deal with other issues, such as where the crossmember sits relative to the firewall and radiator, etc.

i heard from where the motor mount sits to the back of the engine is the same as a v8. the difference is suppose to be in front of the motor mounts
does anyone know how much longer in front a 250 is as compared to a...say 327 or 350

The six is about two cylinders longer than the small block V8. about 9"
