  2. I have every ticket stub and/or pit p*** from every race I've ever been to. While none of them are as beautiful as the ones shown, some are quite nicely done such as national events, but I do have a little goal one day of creating a map of North America with at least one ticket stub from an event representing each state and province...and I've got a long way to go but someday when I'm old, I want to be able to say I was there...MD, DE, PA, NJ, NY, VA, WV, NC, SC, GA, AL, FL, KS, OH, MI, AZ, CA, NV, TX, ONT....got those covered...lot's more to go.

    Here's a couple....sorry they're not <1964 but they're as close as I gots...

Funny you mentioned the senselessness of collecting. I've collected Hotwheels since I was two years old. You know how many HotWheels and die cast Nascars you can acquire in 24 years? Alot! I've been trading them to another guy here locally for old car parts!

But not parts to use. Emblem's, old SUN tachs... Now I'm collecting vintage car stuff. Where does it end? Who knows. I'm 25 years old, and I've owned over 30 vehicles, the majority of them vintage trucks and motorcycles. Guess you could say I've collected them too, since I now have my first Harley, a 54 Chevy truck, a 61 Suburban, and a 52 Dodge project with a Flathead Ford.

And lets not get started on the gun and knife collection...

I'm a poor kid from south Minneapolis and have ticket stubs from the 1980 Winternationals, and two from the Indy 500, and some from Bonneville. My bride asks why I keep them, I cant put it into words but I need them.

I been a race photographer since 1983 and I've saved every photo credential, parking p***, garage p***, etc. from every race I've covered. Most are from NASCAR events and the more recent ones are pretty nice looking and have counterfeit protection things like holograms and such.

These aren't near as old as the Indy 500 tickets but are part of my collection:

Well Ryan, I've got two that you don't have.

    and then one you do.

The trick is to strike when you find them cheap, like a buck or two, then it's a collection you can't afford to p*** up starting!

  9. I collect Beer bottle openers. But I do have a stash of ticket stubs from my youth.

The real "trick' is to have good friends that know what you collect and its amazing what they'll find but what they'll p*** on to you. The more sets of eyes that search the better.

    Hi Gang...

Ron Kellogg from www.kelloggautoarchives.com has a poster featuring nearly all tickets from the early years of the Indianapolis 500. See attached picture for sample.

It's a great poster if like the history of tickets...

I have ticket stubs from Lions Dragstrip and Riverside Dragstrip but the artwork you show from the early years is nothing short of incredible, and blown up would make great posters!

I recall from all the Indy 500 stuff I have read over the years that back in the day it was HUGE to see the winner of the 500 during the season after the The 500. Like Milwaukee.

Now days, doesnt seem to matter that much, which is a huge shame.

  17. Still have my 1961 NHRA Atco regional and 1963 US Nationals ticket stubs plus a bunch of other paper and pins from 50+ years in the hobby. I plan to leave it all to someone who will appreciate it, who just happens to not be related to me in any way!

  18. Collections really are evil. I spend beyond my means most of the time adding to my decal, magazine, and ww2 collections and for what? I still don't know but I keep buying. 10 and 20 bucks for decals isn't much but when you buy more than a few it adds up quick!!! I sure hope the markets for this stuff don't **** the bed so I don't lose my ***...

These may not be relevant, but I had to clean out this shed that belonged to my sister-in-law's co-worker and these were in a photo album that were in there. I also got some vintage slot car stuff and other here and theres. She was gonna through it all away!?

  20. If you're buying them simply for your own viewing pleasure... you're fine!

However if you buy all these things with your rent money trying to turn them for quick buck... you might be in trouble!

Jay Leno was approached about this very matter and he said something to this affect... "Some people invest in the Stock market... some in Real Estate... and are speculating on the future value... I buy old cars... I know their values and if the market for them fails... I can still enjoy driving them!";)

Moral of the story... never buy something you can't enjoy yourself and don't buy more than you could afford to loose..!

I have no use for a ticket stub I didn't use, but have pages full of my old ones.
