Brian, that is a great looking phaeton.

I'll answer this for you and anyone else wondering about their car.

I would refer to the guidelines above on the flier, and for small block chevy motors,
they are by invitation only and:

"It should be a 265-283, or at least look like one, no late models." Ed.

That being said, I put on another run in September every year that is open to all motors, and open to cars and trucks up to 1940. It is called the Northern California Reliability Run.

The pictures of the runs earlier in this post are actually from that run.

here is a link to one thread about it.

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=500565&highlight=lucky+bastards+reliability

So if you have a later model chevy engine, please bring your car to that run if you want to.
And you can try to keep up with the flatheads ;)

I hope you all can respect what we are trying to do with this roadster run. And I think if you get what we are doing you will understand.

    Cheers

Hell Dave, that shouldn't scare anyone off. To me it just made the run that much better. There's something to be said for the durability of these cars. I chunked a gear in the tranny towards the end of the day and still drove another 2 hrs. home, try that in a new car! Look forward to seeing ya. Cheers!

    I was just kidding Tim,

last years run was when I broke both pins in the drive shaft coupler about halfway through the prerun. But I made it home and fixed and did the run the next week.

The reality is even the two cars that broke their frames on previous runs made it to the end and we even fixed one that same day and he made it home.

So I would agree that these old hunks of iron are pretty durable.

Anyone else want to put your roadster to the test? :)

so come drive your open car, ...........if you like that kind of thing.

Oh did I mention Free coffee and donuts, ;)

Sounds like a blast!!!(From the past!)---Hope you have a great time!---Love it when you stipulate "All metal cars only" & hiding the SBC motors under full hoods.
All of you ought to make 150 miles easy!----This is where the fun is---Chasing those lines! I've been doing that since 1969, 2 odometers added up show 300,000 happy miles!-----Keep the shiny side up!-----Don

  10. My ride doesn't qualify, but sounds like fun and I'm already in Northern California.

I've got the time off from work. The wife and I will be heading down from Oregon. Any suggestions for hotels/motels? Looking forward to it. It should be quite an adventure.

Mitch that roadster is looking better every time I see it. Well done.

I am really glad to hear you and your wife are coming down.

We have been hearing from folks all over the place, and it should be a really good group of cars.

Here is a link to a site for Petaluma, Ca which is the closest town with lodgings to where we will start. It is about 5-10 minutes from the start to Petaluma.

    http://www.visitpetaluma.com/lodging.asp?action=lodging

I kind of hate posting links like that but everyone has different tastes and budgets for lodging.
And that list kind of covers the options that are nearby.

You can also stay in Santa Rosa, which is about 20 miles north, but a bigger size city, so more options.

Feel free to contact me if you are unsure about any of the hotels or motels and I will let you know what I know or even go check them out.

This goes for any of you guys who are coming from out of town.

    The starting point will be
    the Twin Oaks Tavern
    5745 Old Redwood Highway
    Penngrove, CA 94951

I am really looking forward to this, I've been driving the roadster everyday, can't wait to have some company on the road.

    Cheers

Fixed the water pump leak last night, bled the brakes, got the magneto redone, and getting the 21s mounted this weekend. The T should be ready to rumble.:D

Don't know the area, any chance I can pitch a tent behind the bar or somebodies back yard ??

Gary, that T is perfect. Really glad to hear your bringing it.

As far as camping there is actually a KOA right across the highway from where we start.

I would not recommend sleeping anywhere near the bar, as drunk guys will end up in your camp.

If you can't get a spot at KOA, I am sure you can cozy up with my pitbulls in my backyard ;).

Nick, I can't tell you where the run goes or I would have to kill you, it a secret. :)

I will let you know if and when we are going to be passing by, if you want to check it out.

    Cheers

These are what real traditional hot rods are!!

I'd love to go, but I have a 1962 'vette 283, no hood, and probably no time.

I really look forward to seeing the pictures, guys!

The funny part was every time we stopped on the way home we had to stop where we wouldn't have to use reverse. The funny part bieng Tim pushing the car backwards and jumping back in!:D
We still managed 70 ish all the way home! Rad day.

It looks like about 30 so far, but we will see come that morning.

On the other run I do, it is between 30 and 60 cars, which is plenty.

It is actually a handfull to keep it together if it gets to big.

Look forward to driving down the road with all these other really great roadsters.

    Cheers

Gary, that looks really good. I am stoked that will be driving around with us.

We drove the run last weekend, and ate at the lunch stop and had a beer and the end spot.

    I am really excited.

This run will be both challenging and a lot of fun.

Anyone who is planning on going please let me know on here(if you have not already) or give one of us a call.

It really helps to have a head count,

so we can buy enough donuts;)
and have enough door tags and directions.

Also we were thinking that it might be cool to have a support truck, we figure up to 1953 would make sense, but we may stretch that. And the truck must be able to carry a jack and tools and gas and such.
And be able to complete the run.

So if anyone has such a truck and wants to maybe go, let me know.
Please keep in mind there will only be one support truck. and your day will be spent driving behind a bunch of early open cars.

Thanks for everyone's interest so far.

    Looking forward to it.

  30. Dave, can i be your suport truck?
    Brendan
