I think I've gained alot of information threw the thread. I believe on other boards the question would have gone unanswered due to my low post count.
This is where i get my stuff. Paddles , paddle lube and tinning ****er..... eastwood 70/30 lead....... through a private dealer at 4$ a pound jean fabric to wipe the paddles.....old pair of jeans in my closet baking soda to clean the metal after tinning and after leading and after filling......market water..... from the faucet files.........eastwood sandpaper.....lowes propane torch........lowes brillo pads........local liquor store ( crack heads ) bucket......lowes 3m pads......lowes i think that's it!!! Gene winfield sells a video on the lost art of leading..... that's a very good one to learn all the steps, contact him on the HAMB!!! Good luck!!
This is what we use, it has to be werked at a slightly higher temp than lead, but it wont kill you while sanding either. The trick I have found to using this over lead in regards to the heat is to keep the heat on the solder, not so much the panel. To much heat on the panel can warp it and cause you to chase your tail. David/Mindover's video goes over this technique very well (and many others) none the less, no matter how many questions you ask, burning rod is the only way to learn. There is no disputing that perfect metal finishing is the ideal. But the reality is; the paint jobs on most high end cars, high end restorations, big time show cars, and $1,000,000+ concept vehicles, start with at least a skim coat of putty or spray filler. Although not what I would want myself, it is standard practice on "high end" restorations and upgrades of production vehicles to redefine the panel edges and gaps using only filler!

Had to weed out some chaff to get to the wheat on this one! I`m a woodworker 35 yrs, we always rib the young ones about wood filler. Sort of goes like this: " Yeah, I`ve heard of using that stuff,but never used it myself though. The Shipwrights call Epoxy "plank in a can or liquid plank. Pretty much the same thing going on here. Fillers have their place, I like Rage Gold, but want to use lead to fill trim holes, seems like a fun new skill to learn. Cheers, Scott
You can get some nice steel wool pads at a wood working store, very clean, in 000 and 0000. I used to get wiping solder through Ames lead in Chicago. I also was able to acquire Lamb fat tallow from them. I used to have some nice wiping clothes, those can be hard to find. I use old canvas water hoses, fire hoses if possible or a piece of dense cotton awning cloth. They have everything, you may need to order through a vendor though.
No it is not. There is nothing particularly wrong with body filler; however, the Bondo brand products are a true crime against automotive humanity. If you are still using this stuff, s****e together the $17 and get a quart of something like Evercoat Rage, or other professional grade body filler. If you don't immediately see the profound difference, I will personally refund your money. That said, lead if you can. Take the Gene Winfield cl*** (take both days) if he has one close enough to you. If not, drive or fly to one. He will show you how, in-person. No DVD can do this. The cl***es are worth 10x the fee, easily. You can even ask Dave Hitch.
Yea I going to try to go out to one of his cl***es It's around the same time as my Bday so I told the wife that is what I want this year.
