Hows it going? im working on "bull" here on the hamb 's 30 ford tudor and we plan on doing tuck n roll running boards, the problem is ive taken a look at a few aftermarket running boards with rubber on them hoping to be able to remove the rubber but they have a stainless edge that goes over the rubber so once the rubber is gone there will be a gap, and if you take the stainles off theres not a nice edge. on the original ones if you take the stainless trim off it looks like the trim and is paintable. i just did the same thing on my 29 ford tudor, took a set of stock boards, striped the rubber and all the trim off and painted them black and put a tuck-n-roll instert into them. so basically does anyone have better pics of the smoothy running boards they sell on ebay? or does anyone know of an aftermarket running board that made like a stock one. Also if anyone knows of a set of stock 31 running boards wed be interested. thanks jeff
heres a pic of the outcome were looking for, a paintable edge, and a little bit of a lip for the tuck n roll instert to go up against.
Hey Titus, remember me? The A I got from Jonny-cola had bad boards, but splash was good, original one piece jobs of course. I cut off the boards and a local guy made some new ones in about 20 minutes with a plasma cutter and a brake. Welded braces and mounts to bottom and tacked to splash pans. Only had $40 in it. It is a flat piece now with no holes or side trim. Just a thought. anyway it is an honor to reply to your thread and I am making some serious headway on the coupe.
Check MACS I bought a bare pair, no rubber no trim, pretty reasonable. Have not put them on yet but made well.
Here are some pics of the ones I purchased from MACS. This is the stripped down version if you will, no trim or rubber, very solid and I believe the box had a sticker on it saying Made In America. They do have the piece on the outside edge to attach the stainless to. As stated before I have not mounted them yet so I can not comment on the fit. Hope this helps.
