Lookin' good thus far. Hey is that your daughter in some of the pics? Is she helping? That would be a pretty great experience for her if it is. My wife is expecting and i think no matter what we have I'll try to get him or her interested in cars. Keep up the good work!

Well.... actually, that's my wife.... she is 28 years old, but still looks like she is 18! But I'm not complaining.

We actualy went out for my birthday last year and we were sharing a beer... then an old couple told the manager that "that man is giving that girl beer." Pretty funny.

But congrats on the little one... hopefully someday I will have some of my own.

Another buddy of mine let me barrow a cracked block for mock-up. I am running a t-5 out of an 86 camaro, so I had to redo the crossmember on my frame to make room for the shifter. I'll try to get a finished picture of the crossmember.

I picked up this 8.8" ford explorer rearend at u-pull in on the 50% of day for $62.00. It has 3:73 gears and has limited slip, with big disk breaks.

I had to modify my Pete and Jake four bar brackets because the axel tube was larger.

    It turned out pretty good.

I painted up the front end and started getting it all mounted up.

We are going for a seafoam green body with white frame.

    Thanks,

Yeah, to tell you the truth, I am a little further than the pics, I just try to load them on my lunch break a little at a time. It's been about 1.5 years in the making so far.

Man I'm having a blast. Kind of sad that I'm running out of panels to weld on.

But my wife did say, "well this is your first one, so it is o.k." about something... but the important part is that she gave me permission to build some more :)

What year of Explorer was that and how wide is it WMS to WMS? I'm in the need of a new rear end.

It's out of a 2000 or so 2wd explorer. It was one Obama's Cash for Clunker cars. I'm not exactly sure on the width, I'll measure it tonight. With the wheels on, I think I am going to have to stretch my finders about an inch wider. The "pumpkin" is about 3" off center, but it should work fine.

    Steve,

It was about 59.75" wide from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface.

Check out my girl's rear end.

It fit under there pretty well, it is a little wider than I hoped for, but I think it is going to work just fine

Looking good so far. are the fenders going back on or are you running it highboy style?

My dad & I built an A coupe for him too. It is not finished yet but getting better all the time & it is licensed now so we can drive it while we work on it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=348159

With the T5 for a trans - if the shifter is in an awkward spot to use there are about 4 different shifter location choices with a little parts mixing & matching to make it more comfortable to shift. Search on here for T5 & you will find hours worth of reading material.

    Keep the pictures coming.

    Hey thanks,

Man your build looks great! I've been checking it out when I can get a minute here and there.

Plans are to run full fenders and unchopped, a lot like yours.

I've read a lot about the T5 on here, some real interesting stuff. Right now I think it is going to work, I may end up making a crazy curved shifter or something.

I did cut the shifter appart and I turned the handle 180 degrees and welded it back togther, so now it points forwards. It sits under my right leg, kind of wierd, but it works for now.

But thanks for the intrest, I'll keep you posted.

Thanks, If you need to see any other pictures or closeups I have literally thousands of pictures of different angles of this car. Just ask if you want to see anything specific.

You know...I started with a nice body with the original paint still on it....It had cracks in the body features below the quarter windows and I agonised for a long time on being able to fix them.....but you....I can't believe the repairs you hve made with seeminly nothing...I'm in awe..!

If that rear is too wide you can put two of the short side axles in and shorten the long tube. I just did it and it works great, almost 3 inches total narrower and the pinion is almost centered.
