My daughter just moved to NJ and I can be in the general area for the meet. Familiar with most New England swap meets. Street rod, muscle car, circle track, or pocketbooks and stuffed animals. (some have been getting pretty lame) Is this one any good for pre 1940 hot rod parts? Thanks

Go to Carlisle and save yourself a trip. Englishtown used to be good but last time I was there I could have bought stainless steel sinks and some leather belts and hunting socks but couldn't find some mid 50's parts I needed... Wasted gas/lodging/food etc for nothing. Maybe someone has been there lately and will chime in and correct me...

Seriously bad, lots of drunks, four wheel drive truck parts, household stuff that once came from Kmart, etc.
That being said...if there aren't any good shows on and it's close, this show is BIG. There will be some interesting cars in the 2 different shows, and the immense fleamarket always contains a handfull of reasonable sources for old car stuff. Also, there are LOTS of people selling for the first time after cleaning out a garage or basement for their families, and some of them are cluelessly selling something good left in said basement by Grampaw. If you walk long enough, you are likely to randomly find SOMETHING you can relate to.
If you don't die of herpes and tetanus just from walking through, that is.

    Hey! Skidmarks likes it too!

  5. Its turned into crap with every swinging dick running around on a bicycle. I get hit by one every time I go there. If you don't have one there are hundreds you can buy along with tons of landscape equipment. I go only as a relay point to meet with people who have things for me or stuff I have for people. This time I'm meeting a guy who has a shipment from Germany for me otherwise I'd stay home. Try it so you can say you went and got hit by a bike.

Not worth the trip unless your looking for a weed wacker, lawn mower or household stuff. Watch out for the A-holes on bicycles!

Plenty of household items for sale, however the prices are much better than carlisle and there are plenty of parts to be found. It isnt the rust fest that Hershey is but still plenty of parts to find there. Drunken sellers make for low prices! Someone will have to point out the NYC gang bangers there, havent seen any that I know of but maybe they have good stuff to sell.

There are a lot yard sale guys selling trash that they picked from dumpsters. It is a big swap meet and you have to cover a lot of ground. You have to look at everything and there will be some treasure there. Over the years I bought 2 Chrysler Hemi engines and passed on a complete Dodge Red Ram with trans. I got a nice late 70-s Corvette chassis and Muncie 4-speed. The stuff is there but you have get past the chrome Chinese knockoff valve covers to find it.

I always leave with the same amount of money that I walked in with. It hasn't been good for a decade.

I've been there a bunch of times. There is a lot of junk but I always seem to find something, usually low priced used tools with a couple of car parts mixed in.
    The stuff sells pretty cheap.
And yes way too many drunken a-holes on bikes.
And yes I have been hit by them a few times.
But where else do you see someone drag their living room furniture to a flea market just so they have a place for their pitbull to sleep.
I think I have gotten to the point where I'm only there for the great WT stories I get to tell my family when I get home.
I even take pictures of some the freaks just so I have proof.

it's crap, but i am still going. live and work in the area, so I just go at first light on friday on the way into work. might find something, might not.

can't wait for Carlisle at the end of April though. That is definitely worth the trip.

Everyone above is right, it's a total crap zoo. Big waste of time, and where else do I get to pay just to walk 10 pointless miles.

We'll be there on Saturday as usual.

Fun Game: count the number of cars for sale on rt 529 on the way in.

  19. I'm going today as its a meeting relay point for me. I'll be getting stuff from people in 3 states so it will save fuel costs that way. I will take a photo of something ridiculous for you Skidmarks if I don't get knocked over again by some dickwad on a bicycle.

  20. 'Not worth the fuel and admission, tho you might find a good deal on a snow blower or lawn mower.....

Were they wearing shirts that said "Hi, we're a part of a gang from New York City"? Or are you just speculating?

Just gone back an hour ago Did not spend a dime. Although I was ready to buy some items for body work but the guy was more interested in a $25 - $30 buffer pad sale(which looked like it was going south). I was going to spend $55.Got tired of being blown off and just left. I'll get the stuff on Ebay. A lot more folks there then usual on a Friday. I guess the weekend weather on Saturday had folks come early.

The last time I went was in 2002 and it was on it's way down hill then. I can imagine how bad it is now...

Definately going downhill, but still stuff there. We picked up a pallet jack for $60, 37 buick wipers for $20, multiple older tachometers for $5 each, pair of 1940s looking spotlights for $20, very nice pair of 70 nova bumpers for $75, etc..just have to look around the OT home stuff for sale everywhere. Good entertainment just walking around, would be boring shopping online all the time.

  26. Slightly better than last Fall but still lots of bicycles for sale. Even a chopper one for $100. You could have bought everything non-auto related from an ATM machine to a kitchen sink including a bathtub. I did get a top & bottom tool box set for $50 though. The bicycle traffic was down and I didn't get hit by one this time. :D

I'd like to thank everyone that didn't go yesterday; it made my life easier. A pair of '57 283 power pack heads for $30.00, a Saginaw synchro low overdrive three speed for $50.00 (with a normal Saginaw three speed thrown in), a Carter 400 cfm AFB for $25.00 (hard to find size), an Edelbrock C357B sbc tripower intake for $100.00, some more intakes and carburetors, distributors, a scattershield......to everyone that said it's not what it once was, you're absolutely correct. What is? Gas prices? Car prices? Music? The job market? I'll keep going until it's pointless, but yesterday certainly wasn't. Looks like I picked the day with the best weather, too. The NJ gas prices actually looked good to me---$4.00 in my part of NY now, and I filled up before heading home for $3.51. The ATM must be taking the place of the baby blue coffins, since they were conspicuously absent from the field this time.
