x3.... i've had two sold one in the '70's to buy a model A, wife didn't talk to me about that car for 20 years until she bought her own... the one you see here.

  6. It's so cool to see a true family heirloom hit the road again with all three generations there to enjoy its rebirth. The drive to the Round-Up is the icing on the cake for sure! It gives me hope after owning mine since 1995 that I'll get around to it someday. I should at least put it back on the road and make it a driver again so I don't give in to selling it.

ok guys looks like We're as ready as we're gonna get. My wife will be dragging the trailer behind my OT truck and My son and I will be in the Nomad driving I-10 to Luling. then from Luling to the expo center. We are parking the truck and trailer in Luling and driving in to the show. I know we're punking a bit but hey its been off the road since 88-89...

Wish us luck and see you guys there...

Please! Please! Put new tires on in before you leave for Austin! Tires deteriorate over time even in a garage and can easily blow out on the road from Luling to Austin. I'd hate to think a blowout caused a rollover and destroyed your heirloom or hurt your family.
    Please inspect carefully/replace the tires!

    Jimmy,

Thanks for your concern. While I didnt post a trip to the tire store the car has four brand new tires and has been over and over with a fine toothed comb. we're all good....

Good luck man, hope to see y'all there. We're leaving at 8am Thursday. If you see any Econoline parts on the side of the road pick 'em up for me.

sorry for the lack of updates. been just having fun tooling around in the car.

we did make it to the round up and unfortunately both my camera and my wife's cell phone acted up and lost most of the pics. we did however manage to salvage the few pics I took with my phone of scratch striping my dash.

Wow, looks great in pale yellow with the chrome spokes and pinner whites. Very 1965.

Nice stripe job on the dash! My '55 dash is screaming for a pinstripe job. Maybe this summer at a show I'll get one of the guys to do one.

Very cool ride, I like that you're keeping it 70's style.

    OK here's the latest.
After coming back from the round up I decided to address the twisted lift gate. Nomads are notorious for twisting due to the torsion bar design and the fact people would drive with the gate up. Mines no different

I removed the chrome around the interior to gain access to the torsion rods

A four inch grinder and 10 minutes I had this.

    Here's the kit from 56madmook.

    two screws here

    three here

had to use a hammer driver to get this one out

put a little never seize on your screws. You'll thank yourself later

    great fit and super quality

the upper mounts are left/right specific to watch this

here's a close up of the ball end fitting with clip to be removed before install

    DON'T LOSE THEM!!

you will need to support the gate while you do the other side. I used a long extension with a rag over the end to protect the paint/glass

    Repeat and done

the kit works great. I did notice that the gate rattles a bit more with the torsion bars cut but I imagine it will get better once I send the gate to 56madmook to be straightened and refit it.

15-20 minutes tops and its done and in the books..
