Looking to swap out a power steering box in a 1956 pontiac with a power box from a 68 Firebird. anybody have any info on doing this?? I did a quick fit and all holes line up and Pittman arm spline is the same.Need to modify the frame so the box will sit flush to the frame and do some mods to the column. Clears the engine with no issues. Been hunting for info on this conversion but can`t find anything. Might be some good tips out there for such a conversion.Any help here??

I used a Camaro box in my '56 Caddy, but had to add one mount below the frame rail. Other than that, as you found, it's a bolt in. Even the rag joint worked with mine.

  5. One of the Pontiac websites had a piece on converting one to a 626(?)steering box. There was a thread on here about it also but it was awhile ago.You might try a search here.

I did one on a 57 Pontiac Chiefton with a box from 69 Camaro, which I think is the same. Works good, drives good. Hopes this helps.

On the pontiac you don`t need to add any mounts just need to move a small section of the rail to let the box mount flush.
