Hi, Can anyone tell me what/how I hook up to the 4 prong connector on my 4L60 trans? I guess I need to lock up the torque convertor. THIS IS A NON COMPUTERIZED transmission. I'm hooking it up to a 1960 SBC motor. Picture of the connector attached. Thank you in advance, Mike
Does it have an "auxillery valve body"? The little aluminum block with the steel pipe running to it? That would help confirm the year model. Only two wires on the lockup solenoid. The power wire is continuous and goes back to case connector. Most of the later 4L60's the ground wire for the solenoid goes to a temp switch (not pressure -two wire) and a fourth gear pressure switch. If you have multiple pressure switches, that usually indicates an early 700R4. There was also a 4L60 in '93 cars that had a round case connector and another pressure switch on the front of the valve body, near the TCC solenoid. I don't remember it's purpose.
Hi, I am a Jasper installer and have installed 4L60 trannys in two of my customers rides, a '49 Buick and a '49 chevy. As supplied it has a switch your supposed to mount on the brake pedal to take it out of over drive. My customers prefer to manually flip a Sorensen toggle switch to activate the overdrive. Get ahold of a Jasper rep in your area, he can obtain the harness you need. Jerry
Found the answer to my question. B&M sells a kit to take care of the TC lockup issue. Thanks a bunch, Mike
I'm pretty sure you have a 700R4, not a 4L60. I think the 4L60 had a round plug. That looks like the 700R4 plug.
It is a 4L60. The 4L60 is the 700R4. The 4L60E has a bigger round plug, and electronic shifting. GM renamed all of the transmissions some time ago, from the random numbers, to a standardized format. The first digit is the number of gears, the letter is the arrangement (L=longitudinal, T=transverse), the next two digits are the gross vehicle weight of the vehicle, the last letter "E" indicates electronic shift. The TH400 became the 3L80. The 700R4 became the 4L60. That plug is for the torque converter lockup. Here are some instructions, it is pretty straightforward: http://www.tciauto.com/Products/Instructions/instructions/376600_inst.htm
