Got a customers 49 Merc in the shop. It's been through a few rough hands and needs some help. Need ideas for a simple dash. He does not want to spend the whole budget on the dash (it has none at the moment). He likes the dash in my 50 Ford, so that's a possibility. Any ideas?
The 49 Merc dash is the one everybody wants,so I would suggest putting the stock one in. My buddy has a real nice one for sale. He's in Hunington Beach 714-843-6969. He wants $850 obo. Tell him I sent you to him. There's pic's of it in the classifieds.
That may explain why the last shop wanted his dash and told him he'd be better off with a custom dash..... I'll pass the phone number on. Thanks. Any other ideas guys?
My opinion is that the 49 Merc dash is the best looking. I believe that you can get a glass version from Gene Winfield.
Mercuryland also has glass repop 49s. Either he will spend the money on the dash or the cheaper dash with tons of labor to make it fit, IMO go for the 49 dash Bob has. Looks right and installs with screws not welds.
The one my buddy has is almost complete, minus the radio. Did you look at the ad? He also has a 50-51 for sale.
I'm kinda interested in this too as I have some sort of fiberglass one in my car. But I'm not sure what I will do as my car is 12 volt and I don't see any value in me running stock gauges. Any other cool dashes that fit?
Hey Bud use this and have at it.. http://sites.google.com/site/identifyinginstrumentpanels/home You'll find something you'll like.. Hard part is going to be to find one you can buy..
you can get voltage drops for the stock ones, have the stock gauges redone for 12v or there are some nice aftermarket vintage ones that look good that will fit in the holes John..
The stock 49 merc dash is just cool but they can be a little pricey and hard to find. I belive Bill Pappskie? in HB Ca still has 1 for sale. Since it seems the owner is on a tight budget and he likes the 49/50 shoe box dash i would look for one as they can be found fairly cheap. There not to hard to make fit into a merc
Thanks EXK (Rick is it?), I like the look of that dash. I don't need to run a stock dash, it's friggin' custom.
OK, Bad Bob, yes I talked to Bill Thanks. The owner checked out all the suggestions and settled on a 50 Ford dash. So, that's what I'm putting in. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
