I'm ready for a set of headers on my 59. The set up is a 283 with a TH350, new center motor mounts, old bell housing cross member still there and new trans cross member behind that. Anyone got a sure fire fit set of headers?, and like everyone I'm on a budget.

Nice engine bay, mines a bit more "rustic", but I love it just the same.

I used a set of Block huggers on mine too. Cleared everything.

  6. I don't doubt that heddman, hooker and Black Jack still make headers for that combo. Black jacks would be the cheapest but you only get what you pay for is if you catch my drift.

Years ago, my younger brother used Headmans on his LONG box 56, with a 283 and one of my Muncie 4-speeds. He had 36" long glasspacks, and full exhaust back to the rear bumper. It was the best sounding exhaust! Sure sounded better than my 58 Ex-Navy truck with a 55 265 4-barrel, but it only had head pipes off the 57 rams-horns, and "header mufflers" that were turned around so the collector cone was the exhaust exit. TOO loud. Butch/56sedandelivery.

Black Jack does not offer a header for that application.Hooker and Hedman do, but both hang quite low and aren't good for lowered trucks, The Patriot's are a mid length which is perfect for lowered trucks.

I have the patriots mentioned above on my 59 Apache,it has a 350/th400 setup in there. To save a few bucks get the patriots in raw steel, they're a nicely made header with thick flanges.

I pulled a set off of my 57. no idea of their origin but they are in decent shape and not beat up. they were on it with a stock solid axle and the front motor mounts for a V8. I'm not sure about interference with the side mounts. PM me and i can try to send some pics. not sure about the shipping cost but i'd let you have them. they're just in my way.

Thanks for the input everyone, I went with block huggers to make the pipe routing easier. I know the longer pipes would make better power, but I'm not racing this old girl. I just want good sound and those old nasty ram horns off my truck!
