Been looking at the Gaudiosi #44 and it seems to be the old #69 Red O'Keefe car that ran West Haven in the mid sixties. This car was a real beauty with metal-flake lime gold paint and was a West Haven Speedway/United Stock Car Racing champion.

That car still exists, was at the last Plainville reunion, who would have thought they were the same car?...how did you figure that out? (obviously the scoop) Not too many stock cars have a successful totally different double life.

Look at the rub rails. It's not the same car that was at the reunion. This was:

It certainly was a great looking piece. Zoera, I believe you are correct. I will try to get the story behind the sale of the car when I get a chance (Red is my uncle). He always had sharp looking rides. Thanks for posting that shot from the Big E, I don't have that one. You just made my day! I've got a few pix I may re-post soon.

Flan, any info on Red or the #69 would be appreciated. I'm from West Haven and was there for the last few years of operation as a kid. I did know Red's paint & body guy later on, Billy 'Panther' Korzick, who did the paint on the 69 cars and Billy Greco's 43 cars. Would be nice to hear the story of First Ave. Sales & Service and their race cars. Thanks.

If there were more 44 cars, I guess the 69/44 was used up? Would be a great one to find.

Roman fan, it sure isn't. But you're right it does look a little like him. It's amazing how little he has changed after all these years though

Well I took the 98 to the Round-up in Austin this past weekend. It's a great show and I had a blast telling everyone about vintage racing in Texas as well as the Northeast. If you want to get kids excited about racing you just have to let them sit in a car.
