Hows it going... I've got a '66 Galaxie with a 390 that I am trying to sell, the problem is the car fires up alright, it just won't turn off... when I turn the key to OFF, it keeps running like normal. I can't figure it out, is it the iginition switch, or a ground? if anyone has any suggestions, that would be great.

    Thanks

Sounds to me like it's gotta be the ignition switch that's bad.
Had a simular problem with my 65 Falcon.

Is it actually running or dieseling (where it eventually dies on it's own)? If it's dieseling, it's because the throttle is still a little open and feeding fuel into a hot combustion chamber which is firing despite no spark. Is that's the case, it could be either an overheating or throttle/carb issue. If it's not dieseling, then how do you ever turn it off? :D

It's not dielseling, it just continues on like I never turned it off. I had to pull the coil wire to kill it, got a pretty good jolt.

Unplug the voltage regulator and try it.Backfeed from the alternator can do it,as can a bad or mis-wired regulator.

try switching around the 2 small wires on the solinoid thats on the fender well, or it might be a bad solinoid.with the key off & the car still running unplug the small wires.there just push ons.see if it shuts down then

The solenoid has nothing to do with this problem....IMHO

If the car was working right and this just started then it's probably the ign. switch.

If it's a new installation then you need to find out why the coil is still getting voltage with the key off. A wireing problem.

OK pulling the 2 wires killed the car. So is that a bad solenoid? The solenoid is new I put it on recently and it was fine, then this problem statrted, maybe it's faulty?

The solenoid fairly new, I did a light ignition overhaul: Cap, rotor, points, solenoid, wires and plugs. It worked fine for a week or two, then I parked it for a bit, and this problem started.

    appreciate the help.
