hey everyone, I have the opportunity to get an edelbrock 1406 electric choke 600cfm carb. I already have the 1405 manual choke version. Does anyone see any issues if I ran the 1406 as the primary carb and just locked the choke open on the 1405? the engine in question is a 454 with a comp cams thumpr cam and should have better heads, more compression, and a tunnel ram in a few weeks.

    thanks

I don't see a problem; lots of guys have done it before. Of course, a REAL MAN rips the entire choke assembly off the carb and throws it away---at least, that's what half of the AFBs and Holleys I see at swap meets have had done to them.

ya, the weather varies way too much around here not to have one, it goes from 80 one day to 40 the next and then it rains for a week and a half on one side of the river and not on the other. not to mention the hurricanes.

You won't have any problems. I'm running two 1406's on the 331 stroker Ford in my 27 and both chokes are wired open all the time. Even though I live in Florida it does get into the 40's some times and it still fires right up and idles down immediately.

Yea, that will work fine. Dual carb set-ups typically only have the choke on the primary carb. Like someone mentioned, most completely remove the choke and mill the housing area but you don't have to do that. Same thing with tri carb setups too.

the only problem I forsee is that a 1405 is jetted larger than a 1406 fyi. I run a 1405 and a 1406 on mine but rejetted, metering rod and springed them exactly the same on my tunnelrammed 454 I also did as was said before and removed the choke plate on the 1405 but left the 1406 as my primary carb still electric choked!

good deal, I do realize that the 1405 has a larger jet set, thats easily changed though, I may just buy another 1405 and call it a day the jackwagon that I was getting the carb from sold it out from under me
