I just read there won't be any drags at ANY goodguy shows. Bummer! They're not makin money. Maybe try runnin the poker run/dance on thurs and the drags friday! I guess theres more drunk dancers than pure hotrodders at these gigs. Here, it costs $65 to put your car in and About $15 for people to come look! 2000+ cars and who knows how many spectators. They might make more money letting the local track run the show as its a mess to get teched and actually get the whole show in. Anyway, I guess I'm just pissed cuz I'm building this car to play with and thats just one less nostalgia drags less.

*IMO* This will be a big hit to GG

  5. AND they charge the vendors a buttload, also. Around here, most of the local shows give all, or most, of the profits to a worthy charity. I think that the Goodguys' worthy charity is themselves.

insurance for track rental depends on the speed of the fastest class of cars. i think they need to ditch all the different classes, make it simple like a test and tune. slick tire cars seperate from dot tire cars. set an et limit of 10.90 set an 8 car field of some nostalgia type cars and keep them limited as far as nitro percentage and tire size (after all, nostalgia fuel cars draw spectators) and call it done. there doesnt need to be such an elaborate drag race with points and multiple classes and tech guys and so on. keep it simple, a couple of guys checking safety equipment and a track crew. make it fun, run what ya brung and make some passes.

I think you should start organizing shows and drags around the country......oh, and by the way, do it for free. I'm sure you give all your hard earned money to charity as it is but if you have any left, start your own magazine, car show, NON PROFIT business and count me in for the first free t shirt you give out........Thanks in advance, Mike

You pay every year?...so you go to the events? Are you self-employed? Do you have any fucking idea how much one of these events costs to put on? Do you work for the IRS? Do you have access to Meadors books?

    idiot...

  15. Clean off that keyboard Larry. I overheard a "smart" guy suggest maybe GG wanted to reduce overhead, show profit, and then sell the organzation. Regardless, we all will miss the drags and attend the smaller local shows.

goodguys pulled out of the blue suede cruise at norwalk after last years event. norwalk is planning a blue suede cruise without the goodguys backing. it will be interesting to see what the attendence numbers are at this years event. im predicting the car count to be about the same as when goodguys was part of it.
also looking forward to the indy event this summer. i realy enjoyed it at the dragstrip all these years and am curious to see if i will like it at the speedway. i dont know if i can spend 2-3 days there without some racing to watch. i may have to make it a 1-2 day event for me. i do one day at columbus because its only 2 hours away.

Best line of the day by far. Damn it Larry, now I have to explain to Jean what the hell I was laughing my ass off about.

Actually the fairgrounds is the outfit that usually comes out smelling like a rose with these events.
They get the rent on the grounds and building
Charge the promoter for security and grounds crews
Contol the food and beverage concessions
    Charge for camping
Usually get a per car entered cut of the entry fees
get a cut of the vendors fees
Gets a cut of the spectator fees

Hell they probably Bill Good-Guys for every roll of toilet paper and every trash bag they use.

I'm not making excuses for Good-Guys but they get hit pretty hard with the costs on these events and every year the venues for any big hot rod event no matter who puts it on wants a bigger cut of the take.

I'm impressed that you can you can come with that answerer to H.a.m.b. members. I am sure I have known Gary a lot longer the than you 47 years and never heard b.s. like yours from Gary or any of his staff member. All that has to be said is don't go.WHO CARES ABOUT WHAT HE MAKES OR DON'T MAKE. Your choice. Don't be so judgmental.

For fuck sake, I wasn't bitchin about the price. I only mentioned it cuz their mag said that the drags make no money, so they are cancelled. I thought there might be another alternative but what ever. Didn't mean to step on your buddies toes. The goodguy shows are the biggest and the best for seein mass quantity. I'll be there. Just gonna miss the drags, thats all.

I have gone to the blue suede cruise the past two years. That's the only goodguys event I have ever been to and I think it's kick ass. Hopefully it will be good this year. I find it hard to believe they dont make shit tons of money, at least at that event. It's huge! But what the fuck do I know. The only reason I make the hour drive is for the drags so I guess I'm glad goodguys isn't doing it this year as long as the current promoters do the racing
