...to photoshop some ideas for us. our pal Springer (Chad) has aquired a cherry of a 50 Chevy project and it would help me a ton to convince him to go along with my wicked ways and wild ideas if you could photoshop some of them for me. as you know, it is easier for people to see your vision when they can actually SEE your vision. understand??? ...good... here goes. we want to take out about 8" of length from the bed on this truck from between the front stake pocket and the front of the rear fender. this area is about 13" stock and we want to make it about 5". so a little more than half of that area needs to go bye bye. i'd also like to see some different chops with your guesstimation as to how much you took out, if you could. Chad's (future) ride is currently spread all across the state of Michigan so i offer you these fine samples for your photochopping pleasure. we have Draglink's 5 window (Chad's is a 3 but it was the only side pic i had with the stock height roof) and a couple of Johhnylonghair's ride, even though it has a wedge chop already, just because they were good side shots and i like his truck. and for your added pleasure if you would'nt mind painting it a satin red (i'm thinkin towards the darker side but still BRIGHT) with some small slightly off white, scallops just on the rears of the front and rear fenders. you guys are the best. thanks in advance (and i'll thank you again after so you have that to look forward to )...
its late so these are rough.... red dropped, bed sectioned, no chop i like the gold, chop, sectioned bed, drop
I've photo-hacked alot of these trucks for folks, and this is still how I think they look best... MICRO top chop (more of a buzz than a CHOP!), sectioned twice (two different spots) and a little length taken outta the twice sectioned bed to bring the WHOLE truck into Screamin' Cool proportion! This way, the truck looks alot less chubby...takes on a trimmer appearance.
couldnt tell you how much chop... sectioned hood... smoothed tray... extended guards... now i want one!!!!!
GREAT stuff guys. i actually liked the unchopped one you did Bradberry. at least till i saw the choped one and then the unchopped looked silly in comparison. i for one certainly like the shortened bed. even more so than i originaly though i would. especialy with a chop (i'm guesstimating 3-4"). the pie-cut hood always looks killer on these trucks. thats something we can do after the truck is on the road if Chad wants it done. it would actually go quite well with the planned front end treatment. have Charlie Chops punch a bunch-o-louvers in the hood. i'm diggin Chad's idea of the suede red with off white scallops more and more now that i see it. too cool. thanks everyone. this should give Chad (Springer) something to day dream about while he's at work makin leaf springs. by the way. the reason for the 8" out of the bed is that that is the amount that needs to be removed if we go with a short bed S10 frame (which are easier to come by than long beds). Clark thought it would look funny without a chop, and he might be right, but it looks OH-SO-RIGHT with the chop. IMHO anyway... thanks again boys...
drop this one on the running boards (like Bradberry's) and pie cut the hood and i think we have a weinner!! i don't think it'll end up chopped quite that much though. i'm not a big fan of red but i dig that color.
Here's my version. It's actually a '51. You may not bee a fan of the white top. I got the pic from this ebay ad: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...ry=90965&item=4541190215&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
I really like the suede red with the off white scallops.Maybe chop it just a little.Sectioning the bed could be cool too.
Has anybody got any pics of the 50 chev pickup by a guy from tennessee?...He cut it into 6 or 700 pieces and welded everything back together so it would fit an s10 ch***is.....Truly a scaled down truck....you couldnt' tell it was smaller unless it was next to a full size one. I asked him why he did it, and he said he was layed off and bored one winter. The photo album was two inches thick....absolutely incredible. I didn't have my camera that day damnit. I saw it at a&w on hall road.. sterling heights mich.
thats friggin awesome Zumo. i had actually forgotten that Chad said something about doing a white top with some flake. it looks better than i thought it would but if it was mine i'd keep the roof red. but it's not. HATCH: i'd heard of that truck but have never seen any pics.
Hatch, that scaled PU you refer to was on a Toyota ch***is. the engine and transmission was a Toyota also. Like the reason he gave for scaling down the truck, he just had the ch***is and engine, so why not? Frank
a quick one I did heres the starting point pretty sweet pu heres my rendition Box is shortened a bunch Top is chopped without looking akward I think Layin running boards flipping back between pics looks pretty neat
Fry. is that Granny Smith green??? pretty cool. i gotta say, i'm in love with the shortened bed. i think the magic number on the chop will be between 3 and 4 inches. we'll prolly cut it 3 and see where we're at. easy enough to cut off a little more if it needs it. if you wanted to stick a 49/50 Ford car grill in that thing it would realy be sweet. just move the upper bar up a little and the lower bar down a little to make up for the taller truck front end. maybe move the front bumper up just a touch if need be?? i think it'll look KILLER. maybe even do some 56 Olds headlights. even though they have been done to death they still look great. i think a pie cut on the hood will also help in conjunction with the Ford grill. it'll help visually shorten the front of the truck without sectioning the whole truck. this is gonna be one sweet *** truck, thats fo sho...
lol granny smith green is kinda what I was going for. The truck is so rounded, like an apple I guess. Kinda figured it'd work. Don't have time to try the different grille and headlights right now. Maybe tomorrow. The shortened bed does go along with the feel of the truck.
The Granny smith green just gave me an Idea of what to call my project. I am going to go with the red for sure so how about 'Red Delicious"? I really like the shortened bed and 3-4 inch chop , and the pie cut hood looks great. This thing is going to look great.
that's ****in RAD Zumo. we'll actualy move the three bars (upper, middle and lower) further apart to make up for the taller truck front end. i hope to have the curve in the top bar actually come into the front of the hood just like it does on the car. this is a great visual aid though and i hope it serves as some inspiration and modivation for Springer to get to work on it. i cut some rusty pieces out of the floor today but i'd get alot more done if Chad was here helpin out hint hint... ...MAN! i just got done whatchin Overhaulin and now i'm pumped and ready to get to work on something. problem is it's 1am and dark as hell outside. the garage is tied up and i have one neighbor who would **** if i was outside grindin right now. not that i would let that alone stop me ...
My favorite type of lowering, dropping the cab in relation to the front and bed. Takes a lot of work on the hood, but it's radical without looking so. If you Z the **** out the frame, you can keep the cab interior enough to hold actual people. Basically, cut the front at the firewall, and the rear at the back of the cab, and raise both. Easy! Cab dropped about 4", top chopped about 2" with the windsheild laid back to match, bed shortened about 5" or so. A radical custom that will leave them guessing. Or you could just go buy a Hudson truck, either way.
Here's my take. Not what you asked for, but another look at the design. The problem with these models, design-wise. is that the cab and hood are fat and tall and the bed is flat and low compared to everything else. These beasts were originally desiged for farm and utility work. The cab was high so the driver had some legroom and a good view of the road. The bed was low so it was easy to toss a bale of hay over the side. Now I like customs where everything is in proportion. I like the the door-top to roof to be about 1/3 the height of the vehicle overall. Any more and the roof looks squashed (and yes, some like the squashed look, but not me!) So, I tried another approach. In the first pic I RAISED the bed height to the level of the cab and left it at that. It keeps the beefy look of the truck and brings everything into proportion. Big plus, it sure would be easier to do. If it were my truck, I'd maybe add chrome lakers along the bed top, and some nice big Appleton spotlights. All that sheet metal needs some chrome eye-candy. In the second pic, I sectioned the truck about 2-3 inches throught the hood and cab, but left the top unchopped. The bed is raised 1-2 inches to meet the beltline. Lots more work, definite custom styling, decent proportions, but I think I still prefer the first version.
Please do not *** **** my truck unless you ask or how about this I ask!! if any of you have been here long enough I dont care for this.
you've GOT to be joking Mike?? if not, tough ****! of all the stupid things to get your ******* in a wad over. i like you Mike but that is a STUPID thing to get pist about. if a person is gonna be that "weird" about pictures of their vehicle they need to NOT post pics on the net. better yet, they should keep the vehicle out of public view so nobody else can get pics of it. lock it away in some dark garage somewhere. that'd be a perfect waste of a nice truck. everyone that has read this post KNOWS that your truck is just being used cause it's the only good pic i had available and because Springer's truck is in a billion pieces. it's not like we photoshopped a rainbow and **** on the door with the words "Dranglink's gay bar" and told everyone it was your new ride. step back and think about it next time before you make a big deal about something so silly. next time a polite PM at the very start will work wonders. not that i'll ever make this "mistake" again. i thought you were more mature than that Mike.
Im not upset and would rather not drag this out any longer then needed. Im sorry But Im not one for photo shopping my ride or any ride. Call me old fashion but not imature
