This last Friday HAMBr "OldBlue53" and I flew to NY on Friday to purchase a 1935 Dodge Panel for my friend Tony who is at home recovering from a serious auto accident. A bad weather flight delay and a couple of crowded train rides later we arrived in Amityville,NY way too late to get a in-transit permit from the NYS DMV so we tossed on a set of 1935 Illinois tags and gambled we can make it home driving on the bill of sale, insurance card and a signed NYS transferrable registration card. The gamble worked we made it home to Illinois without being pulled over. Wow; what a long shakedown run in ~950 miles the truck never missed a beat. From the heavy traffic of long Island, a wicked snowstorm in PA, and a rain storm that would never end; the charging ram lead us through some real interesting driving. We had a pretty stressful point outside Crawfordsville, IN when in an attempt to lenghten the distance between fillups we nearly ran out. 11.64 gallons were put in a 12 gallon tank. Being from central Illinois it is amazing to me that a simple ~ 50 mile trip off the island could take more than 2 hours.
More pix of the Dodge please! Sounds like a great road trip adventure! Dare I ask what it's powered by?
Rain, tunnels and snow in PA: In Indiana: Around 10:30 pm on Sat. evening the Dodge is safe at it's new home: A huge thanks to "OldBlue 53" for coming along and sharing the drive home:
Sounds like a good time in spite of the **** clenching moments. Put more pics up, that panel looks clean!
I thought I knew a bit about 33/35 Dodge, but I know I have never seen that style of 33/35 panel before. Very nice looking truck. Nice motor
Thanks for the Road Trip, I always enjoy reading them. Good looking Dodge, I thought they were all humpback roofed at that time.
I wish I had more pictures of the truck itself on the trip but I forgot to take some. The truck started off life as a cemetary van so I wouldn't be suprised if the rear body was made by a body builder and not Dodge. Heres a picture of it a couple of weeks back when I flew out to look at it.
Here are some pictures OldBlue53 took during the trip: This picture taken in Amityville, NY is a good example of most of our run home; overcast and wet. Till we hit al***ude it turned to snow, the little wipers did a pretty good job but the snow kept packing on the windshield until they couldn't push the snow anymore. A quick reach around the A pillar to remove the snow by hand and we were good for a little while.
BTW: A couple of weeks earlier I flew out to see the car in person and was in need of a place to put in the air to look at the underside. Cap-A Radiator was great! I called them before the trip and after I landed at JFK, a couple of hours later when I arrived with the Dodge they had the center bay open and waiting for me. They are cl***ic / vintage car friendly shop.
My friend was looking for a unique vehicle that had the ability to haul pinball machines in. It isn't as long as the side profile picture makes it seem at 19' long it is about the the same size as a lowered Suburban.
glad to see you made it home and bill really helped you out with the lift . looks like you have a nice ride to . I know how you feel about that *** puckering experience almost running out of gas is a scary thing I missed once and ran out of gas 1 light away from a gas station . well good luck with the dodge
