Guess I'll start one of these,...I just recently picked up a 1/25 scale Johnny Lightning 57 Ford Courier diecast at Wally World for $15.00. Thot some of you mite like to know about this as it's a rare model. I'm thinkin bout a repaint except for the roof as I don't like the "playing mantis" logo or the yellow stripe and it's not a correct 2-tone. The hood opens to reveal a nice engine compartment with a Y-block and it has dual exhaust.
Man, I can't believe it either!, amazing.! ...great minds think alike...and sometimes at the same time!
FWIW, i've heard you don't wanna use the purple stuff to strip diecast. I guess it screws up the metal somehow. If it's a metal body, use paint stripper!
It took nearly two months, but I finally got it finished. AMT 1950 Ford convertible with a 9 inch pie sectioning. Pretty much used the kit parts throughout. Wheels are from Lindberg's 1964 Plymouth Belvedere. I have always believed that drag cars and customs should always have a name. I named this one The Crimson Glide. Thanks for looking.
Hey "Neil 411", nice work! I especially like the interior! How did You make and what materials did You use for the pleats and the piping?
I have the same Ranch wagon and I don't like the Mantis either!! How can I remove it without wrecking the paint??
Thank Sauli, I used Evergreen plastic half-round strips for the pleats and Detail Master red ignition wire for the piping.
The Drop top shoe box looks great Neil. I may need to look into that Courier too. If you check into the group forum you may have seen these but I thought I'd share updates of my '61 Chevy. I've had no time at all to work on it but I got tired of seeing the rust incomplete.
Here's a few of a pick up I've been working on. It is an original '68 Chevy kit one of my brothers built back in the day. I actually used 2 of his to build the one. He'd used Rust-oleum red oxide primer on it and 'etched' the plastic so I recycled the body. (pardon the crappy photos. I'll load more on the builder's forum at some point.) The A-pillars had long since broken as had the leading edge of the lower fenders ahead of the wheel wells. The under hood detail on the fenders is the way he'd painted it and makes it hard for me to consider painting over it but I will. Neither original kit had a reusable bed floor, which was fine as I'd planned on tubbing it anyway. I did take the opportunity to turn the 8.5 footer into a short box tho. The chassis, as some will no doubt recognize, is from the AMT '57 Chevy Bel Air street rod. The only alterations I made were to cut out the rear seat area to expose the truck bed and I added about a 1 scale inch spacer to the leading edge of the 4 links to center the wheels. That's it, the rest fits darn near perfectly. The wheels and tires are from the Revell '66 Chevelle wagon street rod kit. They give the truck just the right stance tho I'm not sold on the Daisy mags. They do give a nod to the traditional, however, and I may use magnesium metalizer on the spokes. So, there ya go, it may be OT, but I hope you guys like it anyway... I know most car guys, no matter what era, they're fans of, love the 67-72 C-10s so I hope I get a pass on this one...
