I have checked out the search and its helped a lot. That said ,I would like some help with a specific problem. Thanks in advance. I have a 327 30 over trw 10-5 pistons, 462 heads 64cc, 19.4 valves. 488 lift cam 234 duration. Edelbrock tr1x 450 holleys, 411, four speed, 55 chevy aprox 3600 lb. Have rebuilt carbs with holley kits, both carbs have 58 jets 54 drill size, power valves 6.5 at idle I have 12 vac. The car starts and idles fine adjustment screws all do what is expected. Free rev fine. When you start off its ok, get into the gas slow somewhat ok but it fall flat. Once you get over that the rpm come on than you can hold and go thru the gears. Changes Ive made removed Gm point dist vac. advance, installed Mallory mech. advance with Pertronix 3 ignition system coil to match changed plug gap from 35 to 40. Seemed to help richness at idle but stayed the same under acceleration. Took carbs apart checked PV.s all setting and passages and found nothing wrong. Put back together tested and its the same. Im thinking sec. seem ok under WOT feels good. So whats next jets or accelerator pump issues. Both carbs have 30cc pump and stock discharge nozzles and are adjusted properly and give a good spray of fuel. Thanks for any help Ron

Sounds like you need bigger squirters and restrict your idle circuit to lean the idle circuit. I never run power valves they seem seem to always blow. I put plugs in and go up 10 jet sizes as a start to compensate.

Replace the 30cc pumps with 50cc's. Worked for me, couldn't afford the gas, but worked fine. LOL

tunnel ram bog, with the large air plenum of the tunnel ram you nee additional fuel at part throttle, taking off from stop lights etc., you can achieve this with the larger 50cc pump and changing the squirters......a bigger squirter will give you the shot quicker and a smaller squirter will give you the same shot over a longer period of time

.you will have to play with the squirters to find which one works best for your application, a lot depends on car weight, vacuum etc,

that being said the tr1 is the worst tunnel ram to try and tune for the street, you will be lucky to get rid of all the little problems that they bring to the table.you will prolly have to learn to live with some issues with it.

i run pretty close to the same engine setup in my coupe and have the edelbrock pro ram 2 , which I have gotten to work fairly well on the street.

Thanks for the help, Do you think the jets are big enough? Ron

lots of good advice, be sure to go to 50cc like stated earlier also if you can bring up your initial advance timing a few degrees. Most tunnel rams I've run liked more advance than single four's. You can also play with the pump cam timing, I adjusted mine to give a better shot off the line and then transition easy into acceleration. Just move it to the next slot on the pump cam shaft. I would also be tempted to come down to a 5.5 PV. I know you have pretty good vac, but that may help any remaining stumble issues.

  8. you can also install stuffer blocks to reduce the plenum size to increase the velocity so the carbs react faster epoxied hard wood blocks to one intake and filled the lower half of another increasing runner length at the same time

The jets do not control the idle richness,I would leave them alone for now. I think you'd be better off in the long run if you had somebody work on your carbs. They are easy to work on but easy to screw up too.

Thank all, the car is running good once I got the carbs dialed in. Used a dial indicator to set the accelerator pump ramps and secondary butterflys the same on both carbs. Upsized accelerator pump discharge nozzles and hold down screw. Installed .010 wire in the idle feed bushings, changed plugs. oil and filter. Made a few test runs feel good, got my new tires broke in. Ron http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_2aRosGkoY
