The switches probably makes it possible to change between 4,6,8 cylinder engine.

Pos connect to a psotive lead from the ignition switch,
    Neg connect to ground,
    Sig connect to distributor points

Aux?? May its for the light inside the tach?

Is this a fairly new tach or an old two piece unit?

The DIP switches are to select the number of cylinders. I take it that this is a metal-cased unit. The plastic-cased units are junk. I believe these have a rotary switch instead of a row of DIP switches.

In any event, if you pick it up off the flkea market table and the needle DOESN'T drop to zero. DON'T buy it. It can't be fixed w/o sending it back.
