Hey guys. New to this. Not really a car guy although I work with a lot of equipment. Joined mainly to find out if an engine I have is of any value and to find someone that might be able to use it.

I have a complete Chevy 348 #3867655. It is listed as a truck motor, came off a piece of farm equipment - used as a power unit.

Was running great when I stopped using it several years ago - burned little or no oil, started easy, no smoking, plenty of power. Has not run in several years.

Is this worth something? Or should I send it to the s**** yard.

    Please advise.

    Thanks

  2. Definitely worth keeping. Not sure of the worth, but there are probly a bunch of people in your area that would like to have it. Come up with a fair price and try posting it in the cl***ifieds section here on the site. You should have no trouble finding it a new home.

I guess that's a big part of my problem. What IS a fair price? I've been asking $500, had some interest, but when they find out it is/was a truck motor, that's the last I hear from them! Not trying to "get rich" but don't want to just give it away. Not really being familiar with the auto renovation business puts me at a disadvantage.

  4. If I have something and am unsure of the value, I usually check eBay, although that may not be accurate with an engine, because they're pricey to ship. There's probably some W-motor websites that could help you out.

I think everything has some sort of value to someone. I got a good running ford 302 recently for 2 gl***pack mufflers and 50 bucks . I think 500 might be a little high but I'm cheap

p***ing along info from a friend of mine that runs a blown 348. he uses the truck block because of the relief in the bores that allow you to run a bigger cam. the loss in compression is made up in piston size. 500 seems fair for a rebuildable engine

  7. How about a proper introduction since this is the area to do that?

Uh, don't know if those last two were directed at me or not. Thought I had explained that I am only trying to get a little info. If this is not the proper forum for that, I apologize. I just looked around on the web and this forum and/or website looked like the place where people would know the answer I was looking for regarding this motor.

If anyone is interested, post a reply and we'll figure out how to get in touch with each other.

BTW, although I use my computer often, I am not much of a "poster" on any site, so please forgive any technical shortcomings. Thanks.

$500.00 is a fair price for a re-buildable 348 (truck or not) P.S. I got your intro Don't sweat the negativity some readers are just whiners
