we realized what the show was about. We were ready, lined up the cars and just couldnt wait to get there on Saturday. It was the 1st time as a family we were going to go to the best car show in Texas. I live about 14 miles from the expo center, and it took up 4 hours to get there. My brothers 48 Fleetline broke down twice on the way to the show on Saturday. Every possible ignition problem you could think of happened. It was the worst bout of bad luck I have ever seen. The car cruised congress Friday, not a hitch but it was those last few miles to the show that gave us the most trouble. It tested our patience because we were chasing ghosts. The wives set up camp on the side of the road to watch the cars while we got parts. We were determined to drive into the dam show no matter what. Long story short, he ended up having to buy a new distributor to fix the problem. For me, my brother and best friend Ruben, this was an experience we wont forget, we were all super excited to get to the show, this was the 1st time my brother an my car were together. We all put in so much work to be here, especially Ruben, he worked 16 hours a day for the last 3 weeks to be here this weekend and drove his truck down from Dallas, and my brother drove up from South Texas for this too. I learned one thing though, this 10th Anniversary Round Up for us, wasnt about the cars, wasnt about the cruises down congress, the bands, the shows. It was about family pulling together at the most crucial time and fundamentally doing what we all love to do, work on cars and being together. We did make it to the show at around 4:00, drove in, no fanfare, no hooraas, our little line up didn't stir up any commotion, but to us, this show was ours, we conquered it. Id do it all over again.
Thanks for sharing your story. Memories for a life time and photos to share to the next generation of the familia.
Glad you made it and have a good at***ude about it. I agree, driving your car and hanging out with friends and family is what is important.
Hey, ya made it and like you said it was about bonding together as a family. We learned a long time ago that this car thing, for us, is about the people no matter what some people try to tell you here on the HAMB.
I'm most proud of our wives', didn't complain, didnt ask to go home to wait, didn't get hungry, no I need to go to the bathroom, were always ready to hand us tools, they knew what we were going through and stood by us all the way.
