Seen this on a car this weekend. Does anyone know if this is home made or if this is some old aftermarket kit? Never could find the owner to ask.
That was my first reaction. It was at a motorcycle show here in Oklahoma City but there were like 5 cars on display and this was one the others were late models like 2 vipers and a camaro and a mustang. I was so caught up by that set up i didn't take any other pics of the car.
rad little twin draw-through turbo setup... looks like it's bolted to a 4bbl intake... i've been way into 'early' turbo setups for a long time; never seen one like this... but i like it. cute little turbos... T25s, maybe. can't imagine it'd move a lot of air with such small compressor housings, but who knows... i'd love to see more pics of it, if you have them.
Yeah those turbos were small but damn that looks good. That's it. I didn't take my camera so all i had on me was my phone.
80s volvos use T3 (and eventually mitsubishi) turbos... those 'uns is too little... i'm thinking t25, like saab used on the 900s for a while. the compressor housings look like they have a flange mount, kinda like the turbo from the ford thunderbirds in the 80s... but think they used a full T3, too. whatever it is, i want it... if even to hang on the wall of my shop. i've seen other draw-through turbos that use a plenum kinda like that on a 4bbl manifold... but never one that mounts the turbos right above the valve covers like that. if nothing else, thanks for posting it...
If that is a 289 or even a 302 - each turbo is only feeding 4 cylinders anywhere between 145 - 151 cu inches. As small as they are, I bet they spool up instantly and all it takes is 5 psi to give pretty respectable HP gains. I don't know what a webber will support as far as HP goes - but that looks like a fun setup that probably scoots off the line pretty well.
I've seen the Weber turbo adapters before but I've never seen new ones, I'd bet they're no longer made. Shawn
i've got a couple adapters that fit webers... one that's straight, one that's a 45 degree. the straight one has a weird flange fitting, the other is a hose fitting (like a harley). doubt they're still made... not many people doing carb'd turbo setups compared to EFI. i've had both carbs and EFI... i enjoy the mechanical aspect of carbs, they can be made to run and run HARD. that being said i went from a draw-through to a blow-through to EFI (megasquirt) on my OT (60s swedish junk) daily driver for the drivability, tuning and total power. my grandpa had stories about running a turbo on a flathead V8, somewhat unsuccessfully, after WWII. i've been wanting to turbo a flatty ever since (and have turbo'd a bunch of other motors so far). sorry for going OT there... forced induction gets my gears turnin'
Definately homemade! Wish my work looked like that! Check out those snazzy intercoolers! There's a guy here in Tucson that is running a setup like that on a Volkswagon drag car. It's a single turbo with the twin Webers. Runs tens at 30# boost.
