Ive looked all over net but cant find a stock 65 riv road test with a 1/4 mile time o-60s stopping etc. All ive found were grandsport road tests. Any ideas or links on how the stock 401 Rivvys did?
We had one running at the old Yellow River Drag Strip near Atlanta (Covington, Ga.) back then. I 'm sure it wasn't a GS, but couldn't tell you anything alse about it. Was runnig high 16's and low 17's. Ran with our '62 390 Ford which ran lower 16's with a three speed and one wheel wonder.....Both cars would slip and slide off of the line, but the big Riv' was really coming at the top end....Glad it wasn't 1400'!
I've got a road test article on a '65 GS doin high 14's in the 1/4. I've gotta dig it out and scan it for ya.
I had one of the nicest stock 65's you'd ever want to see for a time in the 1990's. Not a GS, regular 401. 15.73 at US131 dragway. Can't remember the mph. I'll admit however the exhaust was not perfectly stock. I miss owning this car everyday.
^ BTW, the car had a lot of admirers at the track that day. Until the 4th pass when a stock tower screw hose clamp let go and the air cleaner sucked in about a gallon of coolant. I laid a spectacular fog bank down the track. Underhood this car was show perfect, even a tar top battery. But I'll never run those hose clamps again for any car.
