I have a 351W in my car,I do know it's a 1975 engine, but don't know what it came out of...The dipstick tube comes out of the oil pan not the block or timming cover..Can anyone ID this design,as to what it was in so I can find a dipstck for the tube?

  2. Mine has the dipstick on the side of the pan too. It's a 1975 motor. The length of the stick is critical, otherwise you won't have the correct oil level.

I dont see why you are sweating this. That was how it was built. The front sump pans were in earlier cars and thus had the timing cover dipstick. Whats broke?

on a 351w if the dip stick is in the rear sump of the pan. more likely its from a truck or van.. if i remember right all cars still had front sump pans with sticks in the timing cover untill around 1980..

I have no stick for the tube...just looking for the correct one...most of the aftermarket ones are for the ones that go into the timming cover or the block

Go to the scrapyard and pull one out of a truck or whatever with the same pan.

If you use the rear sump Ford Motorsport pan you will have a pan with the stick in the side, If you have that pan you use that stick. If you switch to that pan you use that stick and plug the stick hole at the front. The question is what pan do you have? I would not be sure that all side stick pans take the same stick. Figure out what you have and use the appropriate stick and the rest will solve itself.

this is the motorsport fox pan with the two drain holes and the rear sump, you need to use the stick for it. Jegs would have it.
