I've been driving this car for years. If ya want to roll down the road its gearing. I have a dana 44 in the back and have a setup for rolling and racing. 307 posi for the trips and a 410 locker for the track. Takes me about a hour to swap em. We rolled 75 80 the whole way at about 2800, well by my old sun tack. P*** at will! Drove down with a buddy who has a bmw 325i we went up to 120 for a bit. She was still at only 3600 3700 rpm. i have a little 283 with a 300 hp cam in her right now and she just goes down the road. Love that ya drove her and solo! Oh is that original pant? If it is your gonna make me a bit jealous. Ill see if the little lady got the pic.

Yea, gearing was my biggest problem 378 banjo all original. Plus having a tired Flathead kept me under 60mph 99% of the trip. Paint is at least 40 years old but not original. Plans are to redo or replace the flathhead, sticking with the flathead though! And new gears in the Banjo or maybe a 5 speed:D

It was great to meet you. The Denver boys were a little worried when we found you with the front wheel off and your car up on a bottle jack in the parking garage of the Emb***y. Glad you perservered.

Great thread with the trip story and the photos. That first real road trip with an old car is one that stays in the memory bank forever.

Glad to hear you made it home OK. Hope the damage to the tire and fender wasn't too bad, cause you have a nice 40 there. We just got back to Denver a couple of hours ago. Nothin like looking thru a '40 windshield to see the USA! See ya around.

Mark, Lulu did GREAT!! We left Denver last Tuesday, drove to Amarillo, then picked up about 6-7 other cars from Amarillo to Austin, and of course, Lulu never missed a beat. Round trip from Denver to Austin was about 2000 miles, snow, ice, 90 degree plus days, un-freekin-believable winds, great car show, and lots of good, good people. SO MUCH FUN!!! See ya soon.

Fender and tire made it back just fine, guess I must have rolled the lip just enough:) Thanks for your concern. Oh and you have a very nice 40. Also, I hear ya on the seeing the country thru the windshield of a 40, I would have never been able to drive 1000 plus miles round trip in my late model at under 60 mph, but in the 40, it was a pleasure. I would take off in it again tomorrow and do it all over!:D Thanks Again!

Toast!!!!! Awesome accomplishment. Dig the '40 and all the pics. I was close to going to LSRU, but had a race I already committed to.

Glad you made it. Looking forward to seeing your coupe in person.
