Anyone sprayed diamond dust on here, and does anyone know where you can still get it? I have read online for ultra fine crushed gl*** on some hobby store's but dont know if it is fine enough to be Diamond Dust. Also has anyone sprayed it over White with a pearl?
I have 4oz of diamond dust. And also about 8oz of crushed gl***. Both from the 70's. The crushed gl*** just got sprayed on a project of mine. It was heavy as hell in the bag. When you look at it up close it looks like someone took a silver christmas ornament and crushed it up really fine. There are varying sized chips. Some are slivers and some are as small as dust. They arent transparent, but reflect light like crazy. It looks similar to flake, but it dances around a little differently and has a different texture to it when layed down. The diamond dust on the other hand is super fine. It looks almost like powder that *****les. When you open the little jar, you can see particles get airborne immediately and it looks as though they are weightless and get carried into the air like a feather. The 4oz jar weighed significantly less than the crushed gl*** of equal portion. The closest thing I can compare it to so far is HOK White Ice Pearl. They look very similar in the jar. Very similar size and consistency, although the diamond dust seems to be a little finer. Also, the diamond dust has more *****le than the Ice Pearl. But product for product, Ice Pearl is the closest thing I've seen to the diamond dust that I have. Even closer than the finest miniflake on the market. And it sprays the same too. No need to bury it. You kinda just dust it on and it does its thing. I'll try to get you some pictures. I don't know where you can get it off hand. It's out there. you just gotta ask the right people. lots of the oldschool painters that still do lowriders seem to have that **** laying around. That and old Murano Pearl. I got mine from a couple sources that have that **** on lock down now. Not giving it up. I aint giving mine up either.

Interesting. Not very expensive at all. I'd like to order some and compare it to the the 70's stuff I have. Of all those products, the Japanese "Icy Flake" diamond dust looks the most like it might compare to the oldschool diamond dust. The first one in the 3oz jar, crystal clear fine grain, is described as sparkly sugar. That makes me think it's not fine enough. I dunno. That little vile of super-fine gl*** looks very interesting too, but it's sold out. See how the dust looks white and the silver looks...well, silver. That's how my stuff is. The dust is a transparent material, where the crushed gl*** is silver. But I've heard other people describe crushed gl*** as looking white too. I'm probably not much help. I'm just giving you comparisons based on what I'm holding right now. Good luck, man.
I'm looking for clear/ transparent, going over white so i dont want silver. I hope someone else can chip in . Thanks for your help Eryk . Did you check out page two on that site also. it talks about "pixie dust" which is a cake flour consistency of ground mica. I wonder how that would work?
Mate check old cl***ified adds, there was a guy selling bags of flake like you describe, you never know he could still have some. Do you ever ponder the gayness of 'flake talk'????? ****sparkles**** LOL

I've personally never tried to use it for any painting, but "diamond powder" is used for polishing superhard materials. It's available in different sizes/grits. You can get real diamond powder or different synthetic types from places that specialize in abrasives. I've even seen it on ebay.
My local paint shop says they can get crushed gl***. Maybe diamond dust too? Have you tried your local paint shop? I want to use some with white pearl on top of my base.
PPG here in Aust has a product that is called Prizmatique it has an Awsome effect...........not sure if that is close to What your After Im sure you can get in the States

Yes i have. Diamond dust is very fine but has alot more pop when light hits it compared to cut / ground gl***. Try Alsa Corp i think they still have it and it comes in a few different colors. Rick

Diamond dust isnt actually well diamond dust, its gl***. i dont know if the abrasive true diamond dust would have the pop, sparkle of the gl***
Take a look at auto air colors hot rod sparkle white. Its not actually white. I used it on my 52 and a buddy of mine who is an old time painter said "wow, I havent seen diamond dust in ages."
