good call, I have a lot of wall art (things I didn't need) but it all comes around. I have become pretty good at trading stuff.

Nice to see you do the right thing, hope it works out for you. A man's word is all we can hope to find in each other.

I held a set of tires and wheels for a week for a guy who gave me his word he would come and pay me on Saturday. He never showed, never called and did not not return a phone call. There was a second guy who told me to call him if the deal went sour. Called him, he bought the set. I don't get it, what would possess a man to give his word and then act without integrity? I'm a big boy, call me and say you changed your mind, coudn't raise the money.whatever: I'm fine with that. I don't get it.

You are a stand up guy and it sounds to me that this would have eaten at you if you would have backed out. After all the seller is the one who also offered the additional advise (at no charge I may add). To back out would have been a slap in the face in my opinion. I know people who wouldn't think twice to say thanks for the free info and for saving me money, have a nice day and back out of the deal. Good to see there are others who think the same way I do. There is help for society after all.

I'll tell ya, you've got my little bro beside himself excited. We've been talking about that bobber for two weeks trying to get him able to make a deal. I'm glad you guys were able to work out a deal. I cant wait to help him get it on the road. There's a few of us young guys that have a club out here in Dodge City, and we're all finally getting close to having road worthy cars. This one seems to be his ticket. Thanks for working with him.

The thing is it was an open drive 55 chevy pickup rearend. It came out of a driving truck and I bought it for $75 bucks. So I feel like I really didnt get hurt either way I go.

  7. A few months ago I was on the seller side of this, The guy thought that Ford F-1 brakes (which are only 11") were the ones he needed for 12" Buick drums (He needed F-2 brakes), I didn't know it was what he was using them for until we were halfway through removing the spindles from the truck.

Since he came with another guy and he removed the parts he needed himself. I still got a little money off the other stuff, and I sold the brakes to somebody else later and I didn't need to remove them. Even If I had removed them, I wouldn't coerce somebody into buying something they didn't need.

You did the right thing. I found about half the people in the old car world are reliable. The good half are rock solid and keep their word & the other half are like a candle in the wind ! Twice in the past few months I've tried to go look at cars advertised on here in NY (34 Chev) & (55 Chev) and both have never even got back to me. Even if you dont use the parts you can probasbly get your money back selling it or horse trading . Reliable people are hard to find - dont burn those bridges !

It's not what you say (the easy part), it's what you do (the hard part). Yes, I have lots of parts to trade too.

  11. You only have one chance to make a good first impression, and you did. Like everyone else is saying, you did the right thing.

Grasshopper, this is a hobby. Don't ask yourself it you "needed" it, ask yourself if you "wanted" it?

I sell all sorts of car crap. always have. if I spoke with a buyer about a certain item, then learned after getting it ready to sell it was not really what he needed I would have no problem dragging it back to where it came from and think nothing less of the buyer for backing out.

people are weird. I sold a guy a 1960 El Camino frame for 100 bucks. he paid and never came back or called. I saw him later at a swap meet and he acted like he would get ahold of me and come and get it but never did. then I heard from a buddy he couldn't take it because he didn't have a space for it. must be one of those "man of his word" types who felt it was better to just leave me hanging rather than call and say he could no longer use it and get his money back. in the end I ended up selling him the rear end from the El Camino for the same 100 bucks he paid me for the frame.

point is communication is the key, sometimes things change after the initial deal. I guess many people get all pissy about these things... I don't let it bother me. if a person sells a lot, you have to expect some deals will fall through.
