there is a stretch of river bank to the east of Dodge City, KS that has probably 10-15 old cars and such holding it together. i will make a trip out there one of these days and take some photos. its a sad way to use such awesome tin, but in the time it was done those cars were in the same category as a 91 chevy cavalier is now...although i am POSITIVE that no one will ever regret the loss of a car such as a cavalier, i know i dont miss mine!
Cowley county has them on both the walnut and arkansas going clear in to oklahoma. They are in random spots.
we just found some south of Mulvane a couple of weeks ago, still some good stainless, wez goin after!
Montana rivers are loaded with cars for rip-rap. I know a guy that pulled a 32 3 window from a creek bank in the mid nineties, all it needed was patch panels. He took it to a car show on a trailer, still untouched, it was one of the biggest attention getters...haha.
I was looking at this thread and decided that I now understand old ladys that have 20 stray cats. seeing all this old tin turning into dirt makes me want to bring them all home. I promise I'll feed them and take good care of them.
There sure is a lot of stainless trim there that needs a new home especially all that windshield, side and back glass trim!
If I wasn't close to anybody's house, I wouldn't hesitate to remove a few parts. These aren't cars that the landowner is "gonna fix-er up someday". These cars were dumped by the state to prevent erosion, and the liberation of a few parts isn't going to cause the bank to erode. It obviously worked cause they are still there!
