I bought a 14.5 oz can of Plasti Dip to redo a couple of pair of Klein linesman's pliers/cutters. Not having used it before I read the label thoroughly......................but I never saw the forest for the trees!

Here's the problem: You can't have two tool handles coated individually to the same length if the first one goes to the bottom of the can.

The viscosity of the Plasti Dip is such that a lot of it is pulled out each time a handle is coated, lowering the liquid level by as much as 3/8".

I couldn't get both handles in the can at once, and tipping the can isn't
the answer. Plus, one coat isn't enough and each successive coat will be shorter.

I guess two of the tall 14.5 oz cans (one for each handle) is the cheapest way out.

    Have a nice day.

  2. After you dip the first handle, put some marbles in the can to bring the level back up and then dip the second one.

Yup - that's what I did. 2 cans side by side, 1 handle to a can. Hopefully they diminish at the same rate

Mark where you want the coating to stop on second handle to match the first, insert it and add clean pebbles or BBs until the level rises to your mark. You must have a beautiful set of tools if that bothers you that much.:D

I just hope you remember to do your longer pliers first, then work towards the shorter ones.

It works by dispacement. Putting the marbles in replaces the space that the fluid can take up, therefore the fluid has nowhere to go but up, thereby raising the level of the fluid.

Think about when you get in a bathtub- the water raises doesn't it? That's because you are displacing the water.

That's fine for only one coat.

Unless it's my ex-wife. She was so fat, when she got in the bathtub, the water in the toilet rose.

Try transferring contents to a smaller diameter can each time you dip.

Plasti dip can be painted on with a brush. It smoothes out as it sets. Or you can buy Plasti dip spray cans.

Instead of f*#king around with that **** I just buy the slip on handles Klein sells. Their nice and cushy too. Better than the stock ones and better than the dippidy do.

Sounds like you need a bigger can, or something else to do with your time.

simple soultion..... Klien tools come already coated. Go buy a new set of pliers. look at the time you spent trying to figure out how to do it with the plastic coating, your time on the HAMB ,then theres the time it takes to coat the damn things, then look at what your time is worth and I bet its cheaper to buy new.
    just my 2 cents....no offense....

  22. You could always just dip your fingers. That way EVERY tool you grab will have a rubber handle!

There's one tool you don't want to dip ;) The stuff will not make a good condom :D

And no I do not know from personal experience !

I'm gonna buy a can of black to restore the foam grip of my slightly worn Grant steering wheel.

I have a vintage Grant wheel with the finger indentations on the rear, they don't make them any more.

  25. Another use, I dipped the spark plug wire holders on a 409 valve cover I restored. Looked like factory when I was done:)
