whats the best way to lower my 58 caddy...i looked for dropped spindles but couldnt find any...i checked into bags but it seems theres alot of welding and modifications involved...am i gonna just have to cut the springs? if so, how many coils should i cut off in the front to drop it about four to five inches?
ken posted a good place to start looking... but please, dont just slice enough coils to drop a car 5" in front... thats enough to give you nightmare handling, excess tire wear, about 1" of suspension travel before you bottom out whats left of the coil and look just like you cut coils from the way the tires are going to sit. bad move in my opinion. and no, i dont care how they "did it back in the day" a bad idea then makes it a worse one now.
JAMCO has reasonable price on there drop coils and springs. Ive put them on several of my cars and they have worked out great.
Hey Louie, Some 58 Cadillacs were ordered with factory air ride suspensions, so installing new air bags does not requier a lot of cutting or modification. The frame is already set up to allow room for the air bags. That said, I havent found a "bolt on kit" so you will need to do a bit of bracket fabrication, etc, but there isn't any real serious frame modification required. Check out these links for some ideas. http://www.webrodder.com/article.php?AID=217&SID=1 http://www.webrodder.com/article.php?AID=237&SID=1 http://www.webrodder.com/article.php?AID=105&SID=1 Note: some of these links are not 58 Cadillacs (they are 57 & 60) but they are informative none the less. Good luck. Be sure to post anything you learn or discover. Greg
That's what I say; drive to the local "Curves" center with a box of Krispy Kreme Donuts. Hold the box in view, and say, "Oh girls.........". It'll get lowered real quick. Butch/56sedandelivery.
