Last May I found a tired, but nearly rust-free 3100 5 window on craigslist with no motor, but sporting a super low price. The truck had been set up for a small block many years ago, and I happened to have a nice mild 350 looking for a home so I bought the truck and was already planning out how I'd spend the healthy profit. Then my wife saw the truck and instead of her usual junk-car-eye-roll, she pleaded with me to keep it. Now all my other projects are on the back burner and I'm just trying to get it done, and out of my hair. Here's the plan now: Camaro clip, Buick 455 Stage One, 400 auto, Mitchell overdrive, 3.70 posi. I just joined so, it'll take me some time to catch this thread up to where, I am now (just finished bending brake lines at 1:00 AM) but I'd love to hear feedback and maybe give a little inspiration back, since I've spent so mush time lurking around the forum drawing inspiration...
Suggestion- join the A-D group on here- you will find a bunch of great people who cab answer anything you want to know about these trucks and they will not hold you to as traditional a build as some on the main board will- more laid back about things! Also welcome aboard!
watch what clip you choose, the first 3 years of Camaro, or 68-74 Nova (or clones) work great as do 64-72 Malibu (and like cars). Need help with that, PM me, I've done a bunch of these.
Woogeroo- That's a great thread, thanks for the tip. Our starting points, and work we've done are very similar. I'll get some more pics up soon. Jetnow1- I'll look you guys up. I've always got lots of questions. Rusty1- I used a 2nd gen camaro clip (74). There's a 52 'burb and a 54 pickup that hit the shows around here with these clips and I tracked the owners down. After thorough interrogation and test drives I was sold. When I cut up the truck I measured everything 8 times and the hubface to hubface dimension was only 3/4" wider than stock. Here are some more pics, including my dad looking pessimistic, the 455 core I used to mock up the ch***is, and the core mounted in the truck.
Just log on the Brothers truck and check out their I.F.S setup that fits on the stock frame instead of installing a "Clip". Brothers has everything you need to upgrade your truck.
