Well i was waiting for my CNC to finish the program last night and i was organizing one of my tool carts. I picked up a '56 ford hood emblem and came up with a design. I started by cleaning up the emblem and painting it. The studs on the back make a secure place to mount the hardware for the belt. I had 3/8" round bar laying around that i flap disked into an acceptable shape for the catch for the belt.

I then made a template out of card stock. I transfered that to 11 Ga. steel. it is excessive for a buckle but it is the same thickness as the nuts. I cut that out of steel and drilled the 1/4" holes. I test fit the steel to the emblem. I then used white out pen to trace the emblem to get my shape and cut it to fit.

Too big for me. If I bent over my belly would push it down and.."you can call me squeaky!"

I forgot to take a few more pictures but I think it can be seen what I did. I then cut another plate of 11 Ga. to set on top to clear the nuts. I bent the 3/8" rod in a 2" U for the belt and cut the belt hole prong to length. I decided 2" apart for the two was good and marked lines for welding and drilling. I welded the U on first. I then found center of the U and drilled a hole for the prong. I welded it all together and started final shaping.

It is excessive in size and weight. I will not wear it often but it did keep me busy.

I thought about doing this when cleaning up my F100...(had nearly a whole truck from all the extra parts I picked up!)

The crest was a little large, but I epoxied a steel rack loop and hook I made from 5/32" piano wire. The belt end looped thru, snapped to itself, and I tried it on...

I looked like a Bull Rider contestant from Dearborn. But I left it on, a little 'large', but prominent. Decided to take a ride over to a bud's house, (he belonged to F100s Limited)
but when I got in my truck, the blasted buckle pinched my belly and damn near sliced off a piece of hide!
The belt is still hanging above my toolbox, long time now...years...since 1976! LOL

I wore it to the bar last night. It was not an issue, even driving. I can honestly say i wear my pants a little lower than most of my elders and I have a small whisky belly. My shirt almost completely covers it.
