Have a 292 with a Holley reman 1 barrel Rochester. I got the truck two months ago and after a little fiddling got the carb dialed in and running good. It's pretty cold blooded which is pathetic in Houston, but have not yet ordered the hot water plate from Langdon for the intake (it has headers). Everything was ok till about a week ago when the carb starting having fits. Backfiring thru the carb when cold, not wanting to stay running until warmed up for about 10mins. I replaced the plugs and wires, it was already converted to HEI. Checked the timing and it's set at 10 deg and rock steady. Now the only way I can get it running and keep it running is to have the choke plate almost all the way closed. About a 3/8" gap, then it starts and runs great, if you open the choke up anymore it will die and not want to re-start. The carb is a very clean looking replacement with a build date of 9/9/10. I am really considering running a Offy intake with dual Carter Weber 2 brls from Langdon. Does anyone have any suggestions on my current carb? The intake gasket does look questionable in the front.

Look, those straight sixes MUST have heat to the bottom of the intake manifold and they also like warm air ducted off the exhaust manifold to breathe,I betcha when ya pull the top of the carb off you will find nothing wrong. In a log manifold the fuel droplets drop out of suspension and need heat for the mixture to stay properly vaporized.

Thanks for the help, took her apart and rebuilt and cleaned her out. Found the little br*** plug the caps the end of the venturi tube laying in the bottom of the float bowl, I'm sure that was not helping things. I had replaced the fuel filter the week before with a clear one to keep a eye on things. Runs great, will test drive it in a bit.
