Next question... ifn I had some OEM wide 5 wheels, could the lug holes / center section be modified to fit on vintage wide 5 hubs, as those racing parts use larger wheel studs and lug nuts? Simply drill out the lug holes, or would this be unsafe? Could you modifiy the OEM wheels by welding in larger seats for those large lug nuts? Thoughts? Thanx again, Gary

The holes on the stock Ford Wide Five wheels will except 5/8" studs (or bolts in some cases). I used later model wide five adapters for mine and they actually had 5/8" bolts. Wheels slipped right on. But, I didn't like the bolts and wanted to keep the lug nuts all the same, so I removed the bolts and set the adapters up with press-in 1/2" stud.

But in short, yes, the lug hole sizes will accommodate the later 5/8" thread.

X2. I just slipped a 5/8" wheel stud through a hole in several of my spare wheels. Goes right in. No modification required. The cone of the lug nut should still have plenty contact area.

Thanx guys. That's good news. I've been "scheming and dreaming" on a future build that uses 60's era racing parts, like those used on oval track modified coupes. But I've also considered getting automotive style wide 5 adapters to use on my 27 truck, too, for other types of wide 5 wheels. Gary

If you are planning on running adapters to get from the smaller 5-bolt pattern, up to the wide-5 pattern, I would recommend against the heavy steel ones found at the race suppliers. Instead, a set of aluminum ones, such as the ones that **** Spadaro sells. His site can be found here: http://www.****spadaro.com/catalog.htm
He's also here on the HAMB. His handle is his name. Dude knows his stuff.

Does anybody know where I can get a 16x3-1/2" rim as a mate to the one I have?

If ya do, I'd appreciate a lead on it.

Did not find the adapters in his online catalog. What page are they on?

I have a pair of 16X 7" with a band welded in to widen the old stockers...going to use them on my old Winters quickchange with 5/8ths studs..hope my 39 ford hubcaps will clear the center hubs.
Will use stock 4 inchers on the front with adapters to clear my later disc brakes.
    Spadaro's adapters start at $145

Does anybody have any pictures of the "high clearance" wheels that they can post? I have never heard of them for the wide 5 until this thread and would really like to see one.

    Thanks in advance,
    Mitch

They are 39-41 3/4-ton pickup wheels, and are 16x5".

I'm glad this thread bubbled up to the top again. FYI all, and beware, ebay seller "calouisiana" who is from the Lafayette, LA area and sells used wheels sold me a set of 4 wide 5 rims. Well, I paid for them at least. After months of delays, I got one good rim and one useless super decrepit / damaged one. Now I have to do the paperwork thru my bank to try to get my bucks back. I really like wide 5's in the right application, but the food at Prejean's in Lafayette is to die for (or kill for), whichever comes first.
