In an earlier post, he mentioned that it was from something of the same vintage as the Y-block or earlier..

Previous posts have disproved all of my guesses. Whatever it came off, it looks purdy on your T!:D

So it's off a 50's Ford p***enger car? Not off a 50's FoMoCo p***enger car? That would really narrow it down.

  10. Thom,

I have really enjoyed this thread. Have not read every page yet, but did you learn some history on your ride? Here is mine at the 2010 101 Fun Run in Escondido, Ca. It has been driven to a lot of the T events, winning "Longest Driven" a number of times. 17 years on the road, 3 engine swaps, 1 transmission swap from a Muncie M21 to a Tremec TKO 600.

It was outside since there was a party going on... kinda stripped and neglected but it looked good standing back at a distance... I haven't posted the rest of the hood being built... it still needs the hinge installed on the p***enger side and latches on the drivers side... then we have settle on the exhaust and louver around the openings

Yes, exhaust can be a challenge on these small cars. I have not got to that stage yet but for my 312 (In my 26 RPU) I am thinking I will build lakes style headers, then run the exhaust off them possibly through the frame rail and under the car from there.

    Something like this.

Race correct for the era would be straight out into a taperd 36 driveshaft tube angled up towards the top of the rear tire... or interally between the belly pan and the floor... both put a lot of heat near the driver... a graceful drop into the taperd 36 driveshafts exiting below the side kick/nerf bars would have been a little elaborate for the period but it was done on street driven drides in the day... Photoshop all three and then make a commitment

Finally starting back on this project... I originally dindn't plan on a windshield because even a chopped one didn't have the vintage race car look... windshields were unbolted to race... so why have one? Well because if I don't I'm a traffic ticket waiting to happen... so, I'm playing around with the idea of a slanted 6"ish fabricated frame... with sides

I need feedback... era friendly & streetable?

I guess a close-up would be a little easier to give feedback on... just a rough draft...

How about you make your wire framework fit behind, and wrap a bent plexy around the front side? Attatch the plex with small tabs. Chrome the 3/8" dia framework. Rather racey, uh?

The pictured car doesn't use a framework, but does have a similar look to it.

  21. Just got back to this thread after almost a year, great to see the progress. Still one of the neatest cars I've seen on here.

How about a stock windshield, cut down, and layed back ?

I have a chopped Mr Roadster one and original posts... in order to give it a rake it would have to come forward to set right on the cowl and I don't want to relocate the post or change the holes... I'm still trying to keep it race era correct and it was mostly no windshield or a low homemade one... the body has srew holes along the inside of the body in the door area so it may of had side shields which is why I'm leaning this way...

Wow. This is one of the neatest little cars I have laid my eyes on. I don't have an option on the windshield but looking at the rest of the car I'm sure whatever you come up with will look awesome!!!

  25. Is it required to have a windshield? As long as you're wearing eye protection I would think you would be within the confines of the law? Like a motorcycle, no?

    Love this car!

We will start mocking it up with foam core which will finalize what we can actually build... but, would still like input on the design looks era correct or to much like todays builds... thanks

Does your new design have to work with opening doors? Gary

  28. whichever approach (ie fabricated or modified stock), please lay the screens 'back', something like max. 45 degrees from horizontal, and lower the better, think of it more as a deflector than a screen....less is more...

    Cheers,

    Drewfus:)

The doors were fixed shut in the 30's or 40's so I don't have to deal with that... and an ol racer showed me how they used to get in from the rear which is easier than from the side so they won't be in the way...

Windshield 8" high in the center down to the 6" high on the side post - and 6" high back on the doors.
The type of windshield you have made gives or makes the character of the car unique.
The turtle deck is just right in perportion to the whole car - I think it is neat
