I have imported a 1961 falcon wagon to england that needed new front control arms, which i picked up on ebay .when i got the falcon home ( as i did not see the car untill in england ). the control arm are of a much heavier construction and ball joints are too big to fit the spindle, so what have i been sent ??,will they work if the ball joints are changed ?? any help would be good as i can not get any in england so have now got a 3 wheeled wagon Thanks Mark originals hot rod club
I suspect you have V8 Falcon or Mustang parts. The Mustang was based off the Falcon, and shared the Falcon's front suspension. V8 cars had heavier spindles, bigger ball joints, larger diameter tie rods, etc.
i converted my 61 to 5 lug with those from a v8 64 ranchero , used the complete set up spindles, control arms and all, worked good, much heavier duty than the six cylinder cars.
The 61 did not come with a V8 option in 61 so if you do have a V8 suspension, someone added it. Go to the Falcon forum and ask the guys there, they are very knowledgeable when it comes to Falcons.
1960-62's had different ball joints than later versions. The later one's were larger and were the same on 6 and V8 cars (which came out in mid 63) Upper ball joints were three bolt on 60-62 cars, 4 bolt on the later Lower ball joints were smaller until 10-15-61 What you got were 62-65 lower control arms and no you can't interchange them without changing the spindle as well
