Here are some pictures of our weekend in Maxton, NC...Our Lakester/Belly Tank went 133.494 mph, for Ron's first licensing run with 15 mph crosswinds!! Car was going left, right, left, right, etc. Our son went 204 mph in the VanBlarcom & Gilmore Roadster. Had a great time as usual...
is that the end of maxton for good? i went last year for the frist time and loved it hope to make it back.
The airport has leased the property to Gryphon Security, a defense contractor that does vehicle training for the military and police. ECTA was given notice that 2011 is the last year for Maxton. Looking at alternate sites.
We had a great weekend at Maxton, too. I want to especially thank Steve VanBlarcom and Mike Warren for their efforts in helping Brian Acton make it into the 200 mph club. Here is an article from our local paper: http://www.mlive.com/sports/kalamazoo/index.ssf/2011/04/hickory_corners_mans_geezer_ex.html The ECTA Staff are a great group of racers and the Maxton Mile will be greatly missed after October. Thanks for sharing the photographs, great people, cars and obviously great food! Have the organizers had any luck in finding a replacement site for Maxton?
The local newspaper in the Maxton-Laurinburg area had an article that explains the situation ... http://robesonian.com/view/full_sto...irport?instance=secondary_stories_left_column
Thanks for the photos and update! Glad Ron finally got to run there, very sorry to read that Maxton will be history at the end of the year. Guess East Coast LSR racing will be in Maine now.
Great photos and I guess I can remove that one from my bucket list as it now stands. It's too bad though that this Gryphon security outfit can't see a way to schedule around the races five weekends a year. The races have pretty much always been scheduled the same weekends every year and are only on weekends. And the race schedule has been pretty much the same weekends since the start of the event. Hope they find another venue to race at soon.
