unfortunetly the biggest swap meet in australia is no more.
we received a refund for next years site fees in the mail thanking us for our support.
it seems the organisers are walking away and not renewing the lease with ballarat council.
had many good times at this swap,a great boys weekend away with plenty on offer if you searched.
lets hope someone else picks up the lease, will really miss this swap.

    cheers,thommo.

So we're left with contracting coal miner's lung from walking around in circles at the ****** Bendigo dustbowl!

Organisers, Super Swap Promotions Pty Ltd, is a private company. Apparently there is nothing stopping another business negotiating with Council on lease, unsure of name is copy righted though, so swap could continue. Similar thing happened when Chic Henry sold the 'SummerNats', it can be done. Up here in Q'ld, 'Wintersun' went south so local businesses got together and a new 'Cooly Rocks' festival filled the void.
Although I've never been I've heard lots of fantastic stories, many bargains to be had, bench racing and comradeship.

  9. thats good news. i'd hoped someone would step in. it'd be foolish on the councils part to let it die off simply for the sheer number of people it brings into the town for the weekend. lets hope it all comes together

So many people talking about it at the Castlemaine Swap today. So many odd stories being told about airport expansion and ring road extensions. It would be nice to know more about what happened and what is going to happen.

Well I won't miss it, the organisers lost what swap meets are all about.

Went to the first ones, and they were great, as a rodder, a large swap put on by rodders, the whole atmosphere was great, the old airstrip covered in Rods and cl***ics, the last couple of times this whole thing all but gone, the last time I drove 400 miles in an open car to be told at the gate to pay $ 45.00 a day to put the car on the airstrip for display, told them to jam it up their **** and drove home, 800 mile round trip. when I go interstate for a swap I prefer the Fridge and Bendigo over the past few years has surprisingly been better organised with a more relaxed approach to people who take the effort to drive their cars of interest to the swap.

We all understand any venture must be viable, but if you loose the very thing people go there in the first place you are left with just a venue.

  14. Take it easy.......I am not so young anymore. Good to meet you too. I will be coming down to Tazzie in the next few months, i will give you a holler and check things out down there.

  15. WOW, thats a different point of view, I have been going for at least 10 years and they just get better and better for me and my mates. But i spose its better you feel that way as it keeps the number of hunters down :)

I seriously doubt the swap is over, there is alot of money to be made if its done right & i know many have already put there hand up to help it continue.
