Who sells stainless steel mandrel bends and gas tank filler tubes? And tank questions

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by SamIyam, Apr 11, 2005.

  1. I check on the net and found people like ROCK VALLEY who sell tanks... but I need parts for the filler neck I am fabbing up out of stianless.

    Also, what about polished stainless?

I guess I could always do it out of steel and then chrome it... but, the tank is stainless and I think it would be better to go with all stainless...

The filler neck on the tank is 2", so I assume that's what the filler neck should be... anyone know?

    Sam.

Rock Valley sells the fittings for different kinds of caps, and they may sell bent tubing too. But if they don't you could call one of the exhaust companies that advertise in the street rodder mags.

I've bought vent fittings and stuff from Rock Valley before, and I think they have lots of stuff they don't regularly advertise.

  3. Sam - I bought a 45 tube bend from summit to make my filler connection and I bought a 2" stub that the cap fits on and the cap from Tanks. I also got a gubber grommet from Tanks.

  4. sorry - I did not comprehend you were working in stainless - I ain't that fancy!

    Sam --

Stainless Specialties in Florida sells stainless mandrel bends in different diameters.

For "regular" steel filler necks and such, try "Tanks." He used to sell filler necks and fuel-proof rubber hose to join 'em up.

    Sam,

Try PM'ing Chopolds. He has a supplier that he uses to get stainless u bends for exhaust system as well as fuel plumbing. If you search under his name, he posted a HOWTO on fabbing a stainless tank from scratch.. maybe he mentions his vendor there.

I use these guys @ my work all the time: http://www.tekspf.com/. I think they sell retail too.

They sell high-end stainless stuff for the medical & food service industry, with both inside and outside polished if you want it (or slightly-less-than-polished too, and you can finish it off yourself.) They're pricey, but will have 304/316SS in stock. What bends angles/diameters are you looking for?

There is also a place in San Jose called Globe Pacific. They specialize in the Electronics and food handling equipment industry. The number is (408) 294-7288. The salesman that I have always dealt with is DAVE.

    For sure use stainless.

Just take some #600 grit sand paper to it and in a few minutes it will look real nice......or then go to #1000 grit.....or then rub it with "any" mag wheel type polish.......if it takes you more than 15 min. you are either working slow, or your filler pipe is really long!

    Good luck :)

McMaster Carr and Grainger's also carry mandrel bent stainless elbows, and a variety of tubing. Again, for food and sanitary use. They also have Triclover fittings in the same section. A VERY cool way to put together tubing, in a tight, compact way.

Sam, I was having the same issue. I finally went and had a muffler shop bend me a piece, not quite what I was wanting but it worked. Try a race shop that bends roll cages...
